Loius,

if you can find an add or pic of the RCA model nearly identical to thish chrome legged Zenith, I'd like to see it. My high school pal's folks had one. I know it was RCA. Many evenongs we watched Battlestar Galactica on it, 60 minutes, etc.

Yeah,

And to be honest I have never seen a guniea before So I don’t know how much it would be adjusting for inflation

Guineas

vacbear58's profile picture
Adam

A guinea may be defined as one pound and one shilling - a shilling being one twentieth of a pound so 79 guineas would be a shade off £83 - £82, 19 shillings to be precise. Although the guinea goes back a long way as a unit of currency, mostly it was just a way to make things appear cheaper than they truly were

Post# 1091848 , Reply# 16   10/3/2020 at 16:55 (1,271 days old) by Rolls_rapide (.)

Guineas could also work in your favour.

Say for instance, that you were negotiating a job whereby the contractor wanted to, say, pay you fifty pounds as payment. But you stipulated guineas. That would make it fifty pounds and fifty shillings (there being twenty shillings to the pound), which translates to £52-10s-0d.

Therefore you'd be richer to the tune of two pounds and ten shillings.

There's an old Avengers episode in black & white, 'The Murder Market', where Patrick Cargill's character wants to pay Steed in pounds. Steed stipulates guineas.

The GE stereo

in the top ic looks like the Brady Bunch one. The bottom resembles a later Olympic cart model with 8 track, Garrard turntable, and possibly one model also had a cassette player/recorder. My cousins had one. I recall listening to the comcert for
the Bangladesh flood on it in the ealry 70's. Also slipin into darkness, Low rider, and Cisco kid, by WAR.

So I stumbled upon this post again and it appears a Simpson wringer washer in today’s money would actually cost more than a Miele ,So that would be at least $2517 for a wringer washer in today’s money

Reply 53: A furniture-style double oven in the living room? Would have loved to be at the product development meeting when a brave soul made the marketing pitch for this one, lol.

fine furniture grade kitchen cabinets were possibly the advertizing account company's thinking. Many kitchens nare visible from the entertaining space too.

That's EXACTLY the set-up we had in our house in Tacoma, WA! My Mother loved them! And I miss them! The cable for the cooktop to hood connection was routed through the back of the cooktop/hood with a slim cutout panel in the closet behind the cooktop area. Made replacement easy. Too bad I had to! But my Mother had them re-painted and the paint did not hold. I was sad tp replace them along with the pull-out Power Shower dishwasher. Greg

I remember when transistor radios like this first came out.  They were considered to be an expensive  item.

When I compare the $29.95 cost to what I earned at my first full time 40 hr. a wk job in 1970 it would have been a luxury purchase.  I earned $50.00 gross per week, after payroll deductions for tax, FICA and DIB my net weekly income was $39.90!

Out of that income I paid $65.00 per month for rent, utilities included and $54.00 for my car payment, leaving $40.60 for everything else, and somehow I managed.  Mainly it was the tips I received which on a good day were $5.00 or less.  I remember very well having 50 cents in my pocket to buy food for dinner on my way home from work on many days.

One week I ate popcorn for dinner every night, with some melted 18 cents a pound store brand margarine poured on top because thats all I had.  I sure learned the value of a dollar that first year out on my own.  I also had a good boss who’s wife invited me over to their home for dinner a couple of times a month.

Friends of my parents in Dallas we used to go visit several times a year had a son a couple of years older than me that came to Houston for some school function and he stayed at our house for night or two. His mom sent my mom a thank you gift and it was that exact teflon coated skillet and the spatula pictured. Also included was a matching big spoon.

We got for Christmas 1959 a similar sized Zenith portable tv with wireless remote control. Zenith called the feature Space Command. That was the tv that was sent off to college with me when I moved into my first off campus apartment fall of 1974. That TV was with me until graduation in 1977.
