Oh if I had the time, they'd be on their way to Brooklyn.

I always wondered how the user would add things like bleach and fabric softener to these machines; there don't seem to be any dispensers as there are on the TOL models. Do you just open the door during the cycle and pour them in? What keep the water from gushing out?

Very cool, We have contacted the seller and am going to try to ad these to the museum.

Hi Ken, to add additives to these washers you need only open the door and poor them in, the water level is always at least 4" below the opening.

A friend who had a Laundromat used to measure the 1/2 cup of bleach and pour in carefully onto the bottom of the tub where the bleach ran quickly into the outer tub. Then she poured the half cup of Dash onto the same spot in the tub and loaded the machine and started it.

We had the 1965 LTF 590 with the side swing door and the few times we used bleach, it was diluted in a quart of water and added to the machine after it had filled.  When we used fabric softener, we set it to another final rinse, added the softener to the front of the tub, like just below the door gasket so that it did not get on the clothes and immediately started it.

John, I hope it works out they get added to the museum. Their condition was such that I was blown out of the water how good a condition they appeared.

I think this is the exact set --including the color -- that our neighbors had (7 kids in the family).   I remember how impressed I was with it and wished we could have the same pair.

I hope John is able to save these.  I think they are far more attractive with their sleeker styling than the earlier Spacemates.

Those are in excellent shape - either very lightly used, or extremely well maintained. We had the top control version of the washer, and it didn't hold up very well.

These are one good looking set of machines. I especially like the flush closing door. What years did Westinghouse offer the flush washer doors?

I am only speculating, but Westinghouse must have gone back to the protruded, down opening, door so they could go back to offering the the "Weigh-to-save" feature.

I think the flush side opening door gave a much sleeker, modern look.

Ours (1964 model) had the flush door, and I think they used them for several years. While this type door looked nice, it had problems with leaking, and would quickly develop rust. I think the surface mounted door could keep pressure against the seal better.

Well, at least they landed in appreciative hands.

Now let's wait for the other shoe to drop.  The new owners will likely end up here if they encounter any problems.

I hope they are in good hands, several of us sent messages to the seller and we never got any reply.

If the new owners need any help with these I have boxes of parts for them.

That frustrates me when a seller doesn’t reply. If I sell something I always reply promptly to all inquiries. If someone is coming to look at it or buy it this is exactly what I tell the next person. And I let them know I will contact them if a deal falls through. I even let them know if it sells. Just thought that is a common courtesy but it is rarely reciprocated.

this set. A friend if mine who lives in PA got these. They are in good hands. He is an Engineer/Very mechanically inclined/an Totally into Vintage Mid Century, just to put y'all at ease.

As for the sentiments about sellers, I agree. I have had the same non-response experiences, etc. What does it take to reply back, or delist when sold.

Best Washes,

Louis

Glad these found a home they deserve.

I agree about unresponsive sellers.  I always follow up with anyone who contacted me to provide status.

Currently, it's been a few days since I inquired about a free garden hose listed on CL, and I've heard nothing.  Yet the ad is still up.  SMH.
