Model # WKEX200HWA

Initial impression: "It's big!"
2nd impression: Once in place, it doesn't seem overly large--it fits. With it's mid-way black band and 2, large, shaded glass doors that look black, it's a quiet, dignified, tech look. Like that both drums have a light.
3rd impression: It's quiet. The noisiest sound is when water is entering. All other sounds are subtle and serious. The dryer's deep hum also has a serious quality. (I haven't washed jeans or button/zipper items yet. The banging of those metal parts hitting the drums will become the prevailing sound.)

I watched much of the first cycle I ran--a rinse & spin of some rag-towels. The rinsing was quite through with quite a variety of tubbing--the LG "6Motion Technology".

That rinse & spin cycle seemed long, but it certainly did a serious job of it and looked and sounded good while doing it, so, fine!

All spins I have witnessed so far were very smooth--not even sure there was a resonance effect during the speed up or down.

Ordered it from a local/national dealer half-a-continent away since no one local had it or knew when they would get it and my old washer died after limping for 2 months.

I never bought something like this from a far away company, but I was getting anxious. They shipped it the next day & it arrived on the 5th day (which included a weekend). Hired a Handyman from HomeAdvisor, as suggested by the dealer. The installation is straight-forward and went well.

So, I'm pleased and would recommend.

P.S. The baffles in the wash drum seem to be stainless, like the drum. How common is that?

It's a very sleek looking set. It looks like the cycle selection is very limited. Do you need to use an app for more cycles? Have you tried other cycles yet?

Yes David, the app has the rest of the basic cycles that are on all other LG FLers as well as some others that appear somewhat unique for this particular model. I think they are listed in the manual.

As I have said before A one piece stack makes much more sense than stacking two separate machines.

It certainly is a little polished then a Speed Queen stack, it would be fun to put an LG and a SQ stack SXS in one of the many installations we have where we have 2 or more SQ socks and see how they compare and hold up.

I am going to keep an eye on these and may use them in at least some light use residential installations.

Hi Jaums, I though you were trying to get the new GE FL pair, this is almost certainly a better choice, I have not seen a single GE laundry appliance that impressed me since around 1994.

I wonder how effective

the normal cycle on the entire washtower is.

tumblers

I LOVE the stainless tumblers. Very Neptune-ish in design, but closer spaced, and made of stainless similar to that of some Mieles.

LG is knocking it out of the park with their new laundry line. From the premium looks with their new tempered glass doors and stainless tub lifters to their quiet operation, huge cycle selection and remote capabilities with the app. Their new line isn't just pretty, they actually clean and rinse wonderfully.

This is just beautiful! Congrats on your new machines!

I must echo that LG machines are really getting better and better. I have a 2015 12kg 6 Motion True Steam FL, and its just amazing, with the 6 motion and the recirculation jet. The washing and rinsing is just great.

If they were to bring this style of machine into SA, I would definitely start dropping hints at my fiance!

Can't wait to hear more of your thoughts on your new machine!

What the dispenser and control panel layout is?

Day 2

Still learning. David mentioned it has few cycles. True tho if you use the app to turn it on it offers several more, select one and it will send it to the machine immediately.

John, yes I first selected the new GE FL with fresh vent, but the capabilities of the dd motors & turno of the LGs grabbed my attention while I waited endlessly for the GE. So the LG wm3900 until it was being discontinued, then wm4000 until this tower suddenly looming got my attention.

Keep Us Updated!

Please let us know how things are going periodically. I will be in the market for a new machine likely in the near future.
I am curious to see that they now require TurboWash on as a default for Normal and Heavy Duty cycles. Not sure I like that.

John , Why does it make more sense to have a laundry tower than stackables?. It seems to me that it’s cheaper for consumers to have stackable’s as you only need to buy a stacking kit.

Do you have the option to keep the lights on while it's running?  On my washer and dryer, the lights go out as soon as the cycle starts.  When you open the door they come on.  So, I get why that happens.  Most people wouldn't care to see what's going on while its running but for those of us who would like to have the lights on for the "main event" I'd love a machine with a switch for turning the lights on and off as you might want.  Does one exist?

Ralph, LG washer that have a light switch on the panel, can turn the light on while the machine is running. The light turns off 4-5 minutes after bein on according to user manuals.

On my Duet, the light will stay on indefinitely if I turn it on during the cycle. When I open the door after a cycle, the light will automatically turn off after about 5 minutes, if I don't turn it off myself.

I prefer

to have the turbowash on so everything gets saturated quickly. I'd like to have laundry detergent, bleach and fabric softener evenly distributed. I also like to have my clothes efficiently rinsed. I wish there were youtube videos of the lg washtower in action.

What Bob says about the tub lights is correct--holding one of the buttons on the panel for 3 seconds turn the light on for 4 minutes.

I agree the light should be able to be on for the duration of the cycle. It must be an LED . . ..

As far as the Turbo I feel like there are very few instances when it would be detrimental to have it on.

As for this all-in-one vs stacking, my long-time thought that with individual machines you don't have to replace both if something goes wrong with one, but, when stacked you probably do because you can't stack machines not designed to be stacked with each other.

My situation is such that the machines are out in the open (as opposed to in a laundry room or closet) so having miss-matched machines would drive me crazy. So when my 2005 Kenmore washer died recently, here I am finding it necessary to also replace the still-working dryer.

I would love to see a video of dismantling this machine as for repairs. I would hope repairs can be done without removing the dryer, and be done by one Tech.

Having all controls in the middle is very convenient. I'm fairly tall but could not read everything on my previous stacked dryer without a step stool.

In my opinion,

turbowash should be used at all times.

Self Test?

Anyone know how to activate test mode? What I have seen for LG says to hold down 2 buttons while turning on using the power button, but this has no buttons. Everything is touch, only the 2 power buttons are visible until it's turned on.

No problems, would just like to see each function.

Nice set!!

I would have bought this one if my Neptune didn’t die! I was stacking anyways so this would have been the perfect pick.
Though, I really like my 4370 set. Very fast and efficient!

Similar

So, your 4370 set is probably very similar.

Seems to me LG has a LOT of models that are pretty much the same.

Is the button labeled light or is this some secret code you need to know?  Does anyone know if there is a secret sequence of events on a Miele W1 washer to get the light to come on while it's washing?  I don't have a button for this and I've been through the book and don't see a setting to do anything with the light.

Mine is an LED.

Ah, where did you see it?

Yes, when you turn on the power, everything for that component, washer or dryer, on the control panel lights up; no issues with reading, a complaint by some for other LGs.

And, yes, I like the simple but bold styling.

Does the Dryer reverse on the Bedding program to avoid balling-up of sheets?

I've never seen any mention of any U.S. marketed dryer reversing on bedding cycle other than F&P's top load dryers. Well, Frigidaire's in late 1980s early 1990s.

I'm getting the cousin dryer in the washtower delivered on Tuesday. I doubt the bedding/bulky cycle does reverse tumbling.

Reverse Tumbling Dryers

combo52's profile picture

I have never seen any reason a dryer needs to reverse when running, it is certainly clear the the worlds best dryers never reversed.

To make a dryer reverse it makes it more complicated, it takes longer to dry and it is less reliable.

In fact the only reason Front Load washers reverse is because it does not cost one cent extra to make them reverse, but it actually does very little good for them to reverse.

Thanks for the input Gents!

I'm guessing due to the dryer's large capacity drum balling would then not occur? I dry a lot in bedlinen (Europena sized machines 27' i think ) and in these if the dryer doesn't reverse then the sheets ball up within minutes - v annoying.

:)

Bob, GE had dryers that reversed.  The last redesign F&P had on the U.S. market (when they upped the AquaSmart and Eco Smart to 22 lbs capacity), before they dropped all topload laundry, the matching dryers (AeroCare) were a rebadge of the GE as per F&P established pattern, SmartLoad notwithstanding.  The TOL F&P model had reverse tumble like its GE sibling.  Reverse tumble was a selectable option, not inherent to the operation like SmartLoad.

Those GE dryers were nice: two motors, built-in drying rack and clothes hanger. The design was a choice, though.

.....didn't Electrolux make a big deal about their reversing dryers 10 or 15 years, ago? Recall the sales people at Lowes making a big deal about it.

To whatsername

Only on heavy duty? Are you referring to Turbowash? Turbowash is default on for both Normal and Heavy Duty cycles. It's an available option for Permanent Press, Whites, Sanitary, Bulky Items, Towels and Allergein.

Dadoes is correct, the limited reversing seems odd. As an aside, I have the 4000 series turbo wash machines and am very happy with the performance and available options, save for the lack of steam/extra hot on towels but I just run those on heavy duty or bright whites as needed. The push notifications on cycle completion from the LG ThinQ app are superfluous but definitely handy
