Apple is singing the praises of the iPhone 12 lineup's Ceramic Shield front face, a material said to offer greater shatter and scratch resistance than glass.

Hmm . . . when Corning chemist Donald Stookey took that milky white sheet of glass that was accidentally tempered at 900 degrees C from the kiln, he dropped it and it bounced on the kiln room's floor.  Years later, Corning's French labs would develop Calexium, a transparent amber version of Pyroceram.  Fireplace doors have been made from clear transparent Pyroceram for years.

Ceramic Shield, meet your long lost twin born over 50 years ago.

On that subject, we went to the Corning Museum of Glass on Tuesday....what an AMAZING museum. I can't say enough about it! They actually had an exhibit on the transformation of white into transparent amber cookware (i.e. Visions).

....in the iPhone "reveal" yesterday that they partnered with Corning to create this glass screen.
As soon as I heard that, I thought "Pyroceram".
