At the intro to this post from JMG is the TV interview from last night's 60  minutes and there is a shot from in the family kitchen where you can see the cooktop. Because there is a Farberware saucepot on it, I am thinking it is a radiant versus induction or at least a combination of the two.

Tom, when I was looking for cookware to replace my Revereware when I was getting my KA induction range, Farberware was touted as being induction compatable.

Unfortunately this reaches a bit "off-topic" to be completely appliance-related...

What's one-less range we can discuss here, given how out of range we go there...

The cooktop can be seen with a skillet cooking Italian sausage at 8:42 in the 60 Mins clip on YouTube.  It's a radiant cooktop unless there are induction models that have a red glow on hobs.

I'd do a screen cap but that may violate copyright law on the clip.

Yes, that is a radiant cooktop, no induction.

I guess part of a screenshot doesn't hurt.

I like watching

Claire McKaskil from her kitchen on msnbc. She has a clear glass cake pedestal with a different deseret in nearly every report on her counter. Trying to avoid the mud, being objective, I think Dr. Faucci is very intelligent. I think I'd resign after I were used in a political tv add without my consent, or agreement. I give him credit for sticking it out, and I hope he gets the last laugh so to speak. None of it is funny though.

With so many people reporting from home, they often seem to be in or near their kitchens so I check on the appliances. Most of them seem to have commercial gas ranges or gas cook tops which is why I was happy to see Dr. Fauci's electric cook top. I was not certain about his cook top because I have seen cook tops with two induction units and two radiant units which are not a bad compromise if you don't mind doing a bit of pan shifting once pans have been brought up to cooking speed on the induction units.

Friends of mine know the neighborhood where Dr. Fauci lives. I don't know if the homes date from the time when no new gas hookups were allowed so they were built total electric or if electric cooking was a preference of the family.

Don't know why he needs one when he's telling people to cancel Thanksgiving. That's not going over well down here.

Going WELL DOWN here?

Sounds like it will be time to use a vintage 40" range with a DEEP WELL COOKER...

Re: Reply #8

He's only trying to save lives. He's not for cancelling the holiday,  just the large indoor gatherings. If they are hell bent on gathering inside for a holiday meal, he's not stopping  them; nothing is, except good sense. If it's that far south, maybe they can have the meal outside to avoid loving each other to death. People should not think that they are going to get the same treatment that 45 did when they get sick; no helicopter ride to a hospital, no experimental drugs and many would not want the ones made from fetal stem tissues anyway so it won't be just a long weekend if they get sick.  Oh, yeah, they might not even find a hospital bed close to home with the way the holiday wave is filling up hospitals so maybe it's best they tell each other, "I love you," at Thanksgiving because it might be their last chance to do so.

I suspect that rumors that Dr. Fauci is trying to cancel Thanksgiving spring from the same source that said that if Biden is elected, he will cancel Christmas and no one stopped to consider that Biden would not be in office at Christmas.

Anyone that thinks its safe and a good idea to have a great big family/friends holiday dinner inside for Thanksgiving or Christmas should refresh their memories of the seriousness of Covid-19 by taking a look at the videos of NYC and the surrounding boroughs during the height of the pandemic in the Spring.  The vision of scores of refrigerated trucks idling in the streets as make shift morgues  to keep the corpuses should be sobering.

Despite what the president may say, this isn’t a hoax.  And no one else in the nation is going to be medi-vaced to Walter Reed and receive everything under to sun known to man to save their lives should they become seriously ill with Covid-19.  If we have a large third wave due to holiday celebrations people are going to be lucky to even get a hospital bed, let alone round the clock personalized medical care.

Dr. Anthony Fauci trying to save lives and he KNOWS what he is talking about, unlike the other “doctor” that is now in charge of the WH covid information being released to the public.

I have to disagree. He is actually telling people to "bite the bullet" and cancel their Thanksgiving visits. It's in the news in his own words. And he shouldn't even be saying that, because you know people will do exactly the opposite just because he said not to do it. Honestly, it's no different from any other year in that you shouldn't be going to a holiday gathering if you are sick in the first place. Have a fever, cold, flu, been around someone who turned up positive, just not feeling well..well then don't go. It's not rocket science. No need to tell people "no Thanksgiving", just tell them to use their damn sense.

I have canceled my Thanksgiving plans, only household here. I 100 percent blame President Trump for the lack of control over the virus.

If Covid-19 were just a garden variety cold virus or flu then using common sense and staying away from others if you’re feeling ill would work in preventing other infections.  But covid-19 is readily spread by individuals who are asymptomatic and thats the very real and present danger of this pandemic.

Covid-19 is well documented as being fatal for some and many who recover will have perhaps lifelong health problems as a result.  Why take the chance?  I got pneumonia in 1970 from the Hong Kong flu at age 19, and my lungs have never been the same since.

I do agree with you  though Roger that there is a perversity in the thought processes of many who will feel compelled to do the exact opposite of what is recommended.  And yes Dr. Fauci did tell the nations people to bite the bullet and forego Thanksgiving dinners with many others who don’t live together, and thats still excellent advice if you’re not willing to gamble with your life and wellbeing and the lives and wellbeing of others.  If we know how to prevent possible death and serious illness why take the chance to visit with loved ones for a turkey dinner?  We can all live to see another day.

It’s only, hopefully for just this holiday season.  Better to be safe than sorry.  The medical professionals and hospitals are already stressed to capacity.  Another major uptick could spell disaster for everyone.

Derek,

Same here, abd that isn't all his negatives either by far.
Something is going on because gyms in England are closed again in the Manchester area at least for sure. An exercise aquaintance on Instagram told me yesterday.
