I think she used it for about 20 years or so before she replaced it. From what I recall she was OK with how it cleaned. I always hated it because I'm not a fan of the silverware in the door. I think that's a you love it or hate it thing.
Funny story about that dishwasher. If I remember correctly you pushed in the knob to start it. Her mother-in-law was a "robust" woman. When she was helping in the kitchen she would, at times, start the dishwasher because she couldn't work at the counter without pressing in the knob. |

I keep the silverware basket on the door. My silverware goes in grubby and comes out clean!

How is the silverware basket loaded? Out of the machine and on the counter? Sitting on the door as opposed to hanging off of it? I've never been a fan of this arrangement, but I suppose I could have gotten used to it.
Like these Whirlpools, loading the top (third) rack (AKA the cutlery tray) on my Miele takes a little more time, but unlike the Whirlpool, there is a major payoff. With this design, nesting is encouraged. When it's time to unload, pull out the rack, grab forks, knives and spoons by the handful and put them back into their caddie compartments with one fairly swift move. At this point, I wouldn't want to go back to using a basket regardless of where in the dishwasher it was located. |

As ive used/had this type of on the door basket - with a mess of dishes the silverware basket was pulled from dw and placed in the 2nd side of a standard sink diagonally
No on the door basket now but use the 2nd side of the sink for a small trash can and keep a spare silverware basket next to the trash can to SAVE STEPS/handling and place any used silverware directly in the silverware holder. |
