I'd like to share a fantastic find with you. 1962 Speed Queen combo! I can't take any credit for finding this, that goes to my friend James (114jwh) who alerted me to a local Craigslist ad. It was advertised as non-functional which was correct. This this was a beast to move at 380 lbs. As always with these vintage machines there is both good news and bad news but all things can be overcome and this machine can be brought back to life. The machine came out of an older 1950's home which was going to be demolished by the new owner. He thought it was unique enough to save rather than send it to the crusher. So for a whole $20 the machine now resides here.

No, really incredible find but what struck me was to see you post Eddy its been too long! That is a beautiful find , wow! I'm headed out to the Cousins as soon as this pandemic is over so lets WASH !!!
Can't wait to see the restore, looks like a few broken wires and hoses, hopefully it's that simple for operation.
With all those vanes it looks like GE Piece by Piece washing action in there !!

The Speed Queen Combination Wow Eddy what a great save.
SQ was the last US company to introduce a Combination Washer-Dryer, it came out in 1961.
It was the smallest CWD measuring just 25 1/2" wide, it was billed as the compact Combo.
Its maximum wash-dry capacity is around 5-6 pounds of clothing, similar to most 24" combinations built around the world.
This and the Bendix combinations were the fastest spinning US combinations, around 550 RPMs.
Interestingly this SQ is just a smaller version of the very short lived 1957 Hotpoint combination.
Hi Eddy, you are making our collection of combos less rare, we thought we had the only one, His Majesty Jon C. found the one we have at the Museum, I did hear that there may still be one at SQs factory in Ripon Wisconsin.

The Speed Queen Combination Other Interesting Things about The SQ-CWD
These were only produced in white although the original engineering article about this machine said the door and control panel trim could be had in Coral [ pink ] Green or Yellow, but everyone I have seen [ 4 ] all have the Coral trim.
These were only made in water condensing electric drying models, about 4000 watts with dual heaters above the rotating basket.

Extraction force
varies with the square of the RPM making spin speed more critical than the spin basket radius.

Speed Queen Combo
Hi Eddy , great to see you back & posting and now with another Speed Queen addition, really glad you managed to save it although at that weight a truss and hernia is to be avoided lol..amazing whats still lurking around ready to be given a loving home again.
Looks in great nic but with the usual hoses and wiring to be checked and replaced, the suspension struts look substantial, look forward to seeing it wash spin & dry, but perhaps spin out in a spin dryer or TL before drying. Cheers, Mike | ||

Extraction Factors ~
This is so interesting and illuminating: Have been using a direct drive WP and a large, perf tub GE lately; the lightness of the finished loads has been surprising to me since they both spin in the relatively slow mid 600's. Scratched my head wondering how is this possible? The Whirlpool tub goes very deep, while the General sports a wide girth with that legendary large outer tub; they both spin for six minutes, and lid-free, of course, mostly after warm rinsing. Now I get it: RPM is not the only play in the spin game--so many factors yet to be discovered. Ah, the mystery of physics.

Regrettably, although I love this machine, the Resource Saver was available that year, but I passed on it because it did not have anywhere near as many buttons and dials, and was not paneled in dramatic black. Pathetic, I know, but true, LOL. Now, I would prefer the multiple spray rinsing Resource model which recirculated horseshoe-shaped spraying rinse water. Drain. Repeat 5 times, I think I read somewhere. John says he has one saved for me to buy one day. | ||

Age Of DD Washer Hi Glenn, I though B was 1992, I could not tell if the serial # said B or E which would be 1995.
Hi Mike, could the reason this WP DD and the GE FF seem to extract so well may be because you are used to using the ringers on your WWs ?
Unfortunately I only have one Resource Saver left and it is going to stay here at the museum, I will look out for another if you want one, we still have a number of customers that have them.
