Hello,

I bought a new front loading LG washer in early September. Initially I simply connected the drain hose directly to the standpipe as the machine was missing an elbow bracket.

I finally receive the elbow bracket, connected it to the hose, inserted it back into the drain pipe (only 4" of the hose is in the pipe) and secured the drain hose to one of the water intake hoses with a zap strap.

After doing this, I noticed a weird sound when the machine tried to drain the water; it sounds like water is coming back into the machine. However, I did not hear this when I simply had the drain hose going right into the standpipe. My previous washer was also connected to the standpipe with an elbow bracket and zap strap and never heard this weird sound either (it was connected the same way you see in the video).

Any idea what could be causing this?

I attached a link to a short video I took of when the machine is draining water. You will hear the sound I am referring to at the 00:35 and 00:02 mark.

Some of these corrugated hoses actually make a noise if you were to blow into them.  Maybe some air is being pumped and making the sound like a bad musical instrument.

Would the u-shaped bend formed by the elbow bracket cause that sound to become more pronounced? When I just had it attached to the drain pipe without the bracket I did not hear this sound so I assumed it was water running back into the machine because of the extra bending the bracket creates.

I’ve had two similar LG front loaders and both sounded this way when draining. Both had the corrugated drain tubing routed into the standpipe and secured in a U shape with a zip tie.

Mine makes that sound

and does just fine. I suspect it is normal.
