Consider this situation.

The 2006 Duet dryer of the pair that I refurbed in 2012 for one of RJ's rental properties that needs a stacked set has gone down again.  The thermal cutoff blew in Dec 2018.  Replaced it and the thermistor.  Suspect exhaust obstruction being that the route is through the roof and no maintenance has as-yet been done on that ... but I digress.

Complaint now is dryer is dead.  RJ doesn't want me going in there now with The Virus in play so he called a local service tech.

Tech reported that "the board is bad and is NLA" so condemned the machine.  He didn't explicitly state which board, so presumably means the machine control board, which is NLA ... not the user interface board which is not NLA (although supply apparently is iffy, and it's $$$ for new).

The renter reports that she saw "sparks shoot out" when the tech was there examining it.  So, there's a question of whether he caused further damage.

Anyway, there are a few used and (claimed) NIB boards on eBay, and both FixYourBoard.com and Corecentric handle it for repair.

I told RJ to call the tech back for confirmation on which board is bad.  He also mentioned to Tech about used boards on eBay (not sure if he mentioned the board repair options, about which Tech apparently is unaware).

Tech said "There's only one board."

Really?  Seriously?

That’s an easy cop out these days for service techs that just don’t know what they are doing. Most customers don’t know any better and the common phrase, “needs a mother board and isn’t worth fixing,” has been around for quite some time now. Sometimes it can take a while to pinpoint the issue with a board, if that is the issue. These techs want to be finished with a call in 15 minutes. Hopefully they didn’t overlook the possibility of the belt switch, door switch, or fuse as you mentioned.

I have a 2011 Duet...similar issue....

yeah, needs the board, I could only find one....upper left hand side of the cabinet....

apparently the relay is stuck....it heats way over 220 degrees, and then the thermal fuse cuts out and is dead from there...

it would even HEAT when Air Only was selected....

of the replacement boards I have found, yeah, their close to $300.00.....

its part of a matched set, skeptical of buying a whole other unit, as I can find a few on CL....

There are two boards/modules.  The machine control, and a separate user interface unit at the panel with the rotary selector, options buttons, and small display.  The user interface board connects to the machine board via a pair of ribbon cables.

FixYourBoard.com in Austin TX repairs the machine board, and offers a 2-yr warranty on the work per their website.
