That Model J is a beauty; you don't find too many of them in such good shape nowadays.

Here's another one; this one doesn't look like it's been used. It still has the paper on the rollers.

For a new machine, this is a good price. I'm guessing this one is from the 1970's.

Laundress and Geoff

The machine in Conn. is the exact baby I use many times each week. It's indestructable, looks brand new, and I love it. If you want to borrow it for a summer and a fall, just ask.

Geoff, the Gentleman of the Club, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?
So good to see you back again. Laundress has been very naughty in your absence--hahah just kidding. She tried to help me land a beautiful Philco Double, but we lost. Someone must know who got it. Wish they'd share the joy.

Mickey ... I've been around and bopping in here off and on. It's been pretty busy; fall is here in Central MN and had a lot going on getting ready for our long winter's nap. Still not done but feel that I've made a good dent into everything.

I don't always contribute because I really don't have a working vintage automatic; just my vintage Maytag wringers. :-)

I saw that Philco double-tub; what a beauty!! I've never washed in one of those; I think they would be fun to use. I wonder what the cleaning was like; they didn't seem to catch on as much as Maytag's did.

You're right about the Maytag; they are truly workhorses. I haven't had the chance to use mine for a few weeks; watch out this weekend! We're supposed to have less than pleasant weather so it will be a good weekend to do a few loads in the wringer.

The Model J is a really nice washing machine; it performs wonderfully. The big tub is nice and it really holds the clothing.

This one looks like it's in "minty fresh" condition.

Looks like it's going to go for pretty cheaply, too!

WOW, that looks either hardly used or well taken care of! I too would LOVE to have a good-condition 'Tag wringer to play with, but it figures that the good stuff is so far away. :(

I bet with the Commander, the square tub and open lid creates some tremendous sloshing!

Austin ... it can slosh quite a bit but that's half the fun, right? :-)

The Model J was great; I don't know why they discontinued it in 1969. Must not have been a big seller.

It was priced less than the big square aluminum tub E so my guess is that people just bought up to the E for the balance of the features (connected lid, double-wall tub, water insulating feature, splash crown).
