Thanks John, I appreciate the information. I’ve tried every cleaner except oven cleaner for fear I would end up with no filter at all. |

Thanks Rapiddry1000, My mother used to use White King D in the laundry when I was growing up. I’ll try to find that first and then if all else fails, the oven cleaner. |

LA's Totally Awesome (yellow) cleaner will melt that grease away in a matter of a few minutes. It is quite strong, so use it outside or with good ventilation. I've cleaned many a range hood up with LA's. Straight commercial ammonia will also work well, but it's even hotter than LA's and outdoors with gloves and stiff breeze is preferable. John is correct, a stiff brush might tear it apart, you can dab gently at it with a softer dish-brush if it needs a little coaxing in the corners, etc. Never had one I couldn't get to like-new again and I've seen much worse.
For filters, I put them in a plastic trash bag, spray it to soaking inside the bag and leave it for a while.
The cheapest place to find the LA's is usually Dollar General. $3/gallon can't be beat. CLICK HERE TO GO TO gansky1's LINK |

Oxy bleach also works great. Soak it in very hot water, most of the grease will come off. gently brush it to remove the rest of it. That purple degreaser also works beautifully. |

Wow! Thanks to all. I took one look at the filter after I bought the appliances and just assumed I would have to toss it. Again many thanks! |
