Looks like early 70’s. I believe that these dryers may have a similar drum drive to the Maytag HOH dryers but I’ve never seen a older Speed Queen dryer taken apart so I don’t really know.

they had the completely opposite airflow from a Maytag HOH---the red thing in the door is the lint filter.

This SQ dryer had a two belt system ...one belt drove the exhaust fan in the back of the dryer and the other belt went around the drum like so many dryers of today with an idler system. This dryer pulled about 200 cfms thru the rather small 5 cu ft drum. This dryer does quite well capacity wise when pair to a solid tub SQ washer of that era. That said , it does perform very well. I had a model that was a notch below the top of the line back in the 70's and it was a workhorse. Most loads would take 55 mins on timed dry. I did try the automatic dry cycle a few times but found that was rather useless and it over dried each load. Every single time. So with that I stayed at the 55 min mark with a full load of wash. When the SQ washer died my parents bought the Maytag A510 and that was an experience because the Maytag washer was much bigger capacity wise and the dryer could not be filled with that capacity load the Maytag could wash.If I filled the dryer the clothes would take forever to dry and wrinkling was a nightmare. So then I had to cut the loads in half in order for it to dry properly. After awhile the SQ dryer was replaced by a Maytag DE 710 that I loved.

Hi Mike, yes these dryers were work horses but not that fast or large in capacity.

Hi Sean, no other company ever built a dryer like the MT HOH dryers, Which I would say is a good thing.

Not taking this off of the tracks, the Maytag HOH dryers have their quirks but at least they didn’t get lint all over the place like the positive air flow Norge and Montgomery Ward dryers of the 70’s and those Norge/Wards dryers from what I heard tended to pop the door open when the latch that kept it closed wore out.
