"I find it amazing that there is still a 35 YO microwave in use, and not by a collector."
Posts are creeping up on reddit/r/buyitforlife of owners showing off their 1980's microwaves. www.reddit.com/r/BuyItFor... www.reddit.com/r/BuyItForLife/co... The acknowledgement of older appliances and their build quality are finally gaining recognition from the younger crowd. |

Here's my GE "Spacemaker" microwave manufactured in February, 1988 and installed in April 1988. Still works great and is used multiple times every day.
There is no display because I chose to not have the clock displayed by touching "CLEAR/OFF" when "RESET" is displayed after a power outage. It took me 30 years to discover that "feature"! One less clock to set in the kitchen.

I still see the old woodie GE OTR microwaves from time to time. Overall I like the idea of an OTR microwave for kitchens that don't have much counter space. Just wish the exhaust systems had more power. Did these older GE's have good blower systems? |

Sadly, my JVM150 is installed on an inside wall in a kitchen that has another floor above it so there was no way to vent it to the outside.
Consequently, the exhaust air is just filtered and then blown out the front grill. The two speed blower seems quite powerful - and NOISY on the high speed. I would say that it is moderately effective in this configuration. |
