Seems we have had a run of dishwasher luck here in Tucson this last week what with Nate's belt-drive Maytag and now this great Kitchenaid I just found. Kitchenaid Varicycle-in stunning avocado. :-)

The exterior is perfect too.....well if you don't count the color.

Excellent find, Roger, will be looking forward to using that one next month, and I KNOW it will be Bob-load tested! Those KitchenAids seem to be popping up everywhere now! I have to ask, though...what is that machine against the back wall, where the A208 resides? Doesn't look like a Maytag to me...;-)

Hi Austin,
That macine in the corner is the Filter-flo.....the 208 is in storage right now. when it's timer comes back from Midwest the Unimatic will be there-we all can hardly wait.
Terry-a quick run into St. V De P.....the Kictehnaid was in that outside yard.

Beautiful dishwasher, Roger! This looks like a 15/16 series, that pressure switch was "preset at the factory" but if there's an adjustment screw on it, I'd screw with it to get the water level right - just covering the heater according to the KitchenAid doctrine. You are right about the heater/blower sequence, it's doing exactly what you describe in the timer charts...

You are so lucky Roger!
Your KA looks new!
Have you run it yet?
The memory of this vintage Top Loader is that your could feel it washing from the sides of the machine, and the sides would get hot from the hot water. I am wondering if the inner tub was also the outer cabinet.
What a fun dishwasher!
Thanks for the pictures.
Brent

easier to load

I haven't seen a top load dw in a while. It would seem to me that these would be easier to load than standard ones.

If I am not mistaken Kitchenaid made top loaders through the end of the 80s. I'm guessing, this was early 80s, due to color. It looks great, little wear.

That is a beautiful dishwasher! I don't care about the color either. I loved the Varicycle model--it was SO Hobart. I had an Electra of that generation and it worked well to boot.

From 1968-1971

This machine has a diaphram pressure switch and a dual-screen filter - not found on later top-loading KitchenAids.

Greg,
Interesting about the blower-scavange-blower routine. I wonder what the idea behind that was. I solved the water level issue with a washer from the hardware store.
Now the fun part-test it with dishes.

Brent,
Sorry it took me so long to give you a report on the KA and it's washing ability. I am getting old and forgetful-lol. Have used it a couple times now and it does a great job-even with only one spray arm. Full cycle consists of a prewash, rinse, main wash, two rinses and fan forced drying. It is fast-maybe only 15 min. of drying time but everything comes out dry. Not the quietest machine I have ever had but not bad. The moisture and air from the fan vent out the top between the cover and the control panel. Very cool.

Roger,
So cool that you are using it.
One thing about the older Hobart KA's, they won't win the award for being quiet.
It is amazing that you were able to find your top loader in such fantastic shape!
Thanks again for the report.
Have a great week.
Brent
