Here is the Bendix automatic washing machine all restored and operational.

Coaching and Assistance was generously provided by the foremost Doctor of Vintage Bendix Machines - Darren Clawson (UK) THANKYOU so much!

To recap; The machine arrived 6 weeks ago from Sydney and was seldom used throughout its life so much of the machine was pristine where “perishable” was not a consideration.

Restoration Itinerary:

•New nylon insulated types all through the machine.
•New gearbox solenoid (old one went up in smoke).
•New rubber hoses throughout
•Rebuilt Centrifugal Water Pump and new rubbers
•New Driving Belt
•New paint to exterior (except c’baked surfaces)
•High Silicone WD40 throughout machine
•Old rubber ins’ cord replacement in motor
•Anti Rust spray outside and throughout innards
•Snap lock ties applied configure wiring
•Silicone sealed electrics near water areas

Thorough testing was conducted at short intervals to introduce water to the machine safely until proving ground had been achieved for safety. Fixing water leaks was time consuming and achieved by pouring a litre into the machine with power off initially. The machine was then allowed to take on water and functioned very well!

I have learnt so much and offer any assistance to those repairing a Bendix Fully Automatic of the same model. I think I know these so well now!

End Rant.

Charlie

Hello Charlie, wow the hard work and patience paid off, looks a lovely Bendix, so have you painted the outside cabinet then ? it looks pristine .

Glad you took the time to restore your Bendix, am sure you will get much enjoyment out of it .

Will you require a separate spin dryer after using it or will the spin speed and your hot weather be enough ?

Looking forward to the videos !!

Cheers, Mike

What a fantastic job you’ve done and the achievement is amazing . You clearly have ability and skills that can rescue the old lady from another 60 years for doing nothing !!
I love the style of the machine and your going to love using her .....
remember to fasten the machine down good and tight to those floor bolts otherwise we will hear of an Australian earth quake taking place as it goes into spin !!
Keep us posted with some videos when
You get chance !!
Very best wishes Darren

Thanks Darren and Mike

Mike I did paint the outside in a rust proof white spray and the same with the black handles. I have a Parnal dryer to use with it which is also vintage from 59? I think. Videos coming soon!

Darren - I’ll definitely be fastening her to the floor. After experimenting the walk for myself, I must say it was rather terrifying! Thanks again for all your help on the project!

C.

Bendix for the win!

Congrats, you should be proud of your restoration efforts. It's always fun to see how the "same" washer was made and presented across countries. I can't think of a better machine to demonstrate this than a Deluxe Bendix.

Well done on a great restoration, you must have a great sense of achievement.

Yet another machine from the past saved, especially one so rare.
