Intermittent scraping noise during agitation of TC5000WN

Checkrate/Likes About 7 weeks ago, I started using my new TC5000 washing machine. Since I was trying to get to know the machine, making sure I hadn’t overloaded it with clothes and being on the lookout for suds coming from the standpipe, I was spending the majority of the wash time in the laundry room. So I am certain that for the first 5 laundry days (I do my weekly laundries on Thursdays) I did not hear any unusual sounds during the agitation part of the cycle. For the last 3 weeks, though, I have been hearing what I can only describe as a scraping sound, and I am concerned that this noise indicates some sort of problem that I may be exacerbating by continuing to use the machine. The noise is not due to buttons or zippers as I hear it even when doing loads of just t-shirts, socks and towels. There is also no obvious pattern to the noise; it does not occur every X number of seconds, for example. Sometimes the noise is considerably louder than at other times. During the 2nd laundry day of hearing the noise, it did not happen at all during the wash agitation of the first load. Some loads I’ll hear it after it has been agitating for maybe only 10 seconds, while other times it may be not be audible for the first minute of the rinse agitation. I am definitely not overloading the machine both in regard to the volume of clothes and the weight. (My loads have all been under 10 lbs.) I temporarily bypassed the lid switch to determine if I could see anything strange when I heard the noise, but the agitation looked no different when it was making noise compared to when it was not. Around the same time that I started hearing the scraping noise, I noticed that the drum was often getting off-centered when agitating. (When I would lift the lid after it had agitated for a while to see how the clothes were turning over, I noticed the drum had moved to the right.) By the time the final spin would be over, it would have mostly corrected itself. I have read about this phenomenon on this website, and that it is not unusual for this to happen, but I thought I would mention it in case it was somehow connected to the scraping noise. The time that I temporarily bypassed the lid switch I saw that only a few seconds of agitation was enough to have moved the drum off center. One other intermittent noise that I hear that I am not sure is connected to the scraping is something that sounds like a propeller or how my refrigerator sounds when the motor/fan comes on. It is very soft (so this noise certainly could have been there since I started using the machine) but I think I hear it not only after the scraping but at other times as well. In the above, you can hear the scraping noise at the following times in seconds/minutes: 0:08, 0:12, 0:48-0:49, 0:55, 0:59, 2:12, 2:31, 2:44, 2:59 and what I call the “propeller” noise can be best heard at 1:13-1:14. I was moving my phone around the washer (back, front and sides) as I was recording this causing the regular washer noises to vary in their intensity and volume. Checkrate/Likes RP2813: Thank you so much for bringing that thread to my attention! I had checked out this website thoroughly for someone mentioning this sort of noise but that was done prior to a few days ago when that was posted. The other poster’s noise certainly sounds the same, but why I didn’t experience it from the get-go is a mystery. Also, why in the world would an idler pulley need to settle in?

Checkrate/Likes You are quite welcome! Regarding why a pulley would need to "settle in," that would be something to ask the engineers at Speed Queen. However, if their responses to complaints about Speed Queen's TR series of machines is any indication, they are a testy bunch who don't take kindly to questioning. I think you'll be happy with your machine. It's the only type on the market that behaves like an old school washer with long stroke agitation. Give it a while and if the noise persists, don't hesitate to take advantage of your warranty.

Checkrate/Likes Per a new post in the other thread I linked to above, it sounds like SQ has an easy fix for this. It should be covered under your warranty.
