Reply 6: A friend’s mom made the Country Pie with a ground beef crust regularly, so I had it a few times when I was a kid. I thought it was great, but could never get my mom to make it.

Reply 9: My mom did, however, make the Jello Twinkle Cups topped with whipped cream in the summer. I can actually still eat this if sugar-free Jello is used. She make it in a Pyrex baking dish, then used a hand mixer to break it up.

Love the nostalgia attached to these old adds. Thanks, Louie!

A friend advised me to use for Green Bean Casserole, Golden Mushroom soup and Del Monte Seasoned French Style Green Beans (or similar).

Planning to try one of the #37 variations.

The Macaroni Parmigiana sounds good, Bob. I hope you enjoy it. I've had the cheeseburger pie before, and like it pretty well.

I've had the Heinz Hot Dog Relish lots of times (buy it every Summer), but don't recall their Hamburger Relish. I like Sechler's Hungarian Relish, or their Sweet Relish, on HB's.

Growing up Catholic--with a mom who was an old-school pre-War Catholic from Italy--I am very familiar with Lenten meals. In fact, for years there was no meat on Fridays in our household year-round. Brings back memories. Not doing carbs anymore (which has brought my A1c and blood glucose back into the normal range) but the ads are still fun to look at.

I stocked up on cans of Spam early in the pandemic, so am gradually working through those. They're shelf-stable for years. The manufacturer should just print 'Best used by: Armageddon' on the bottom of the can.

Don't know that we had the MOR brand in rural South Dakota/Minnesota when I was growing up. I make a faux Deli Macaroni Salad (using chopped, microwaved cauliflower in lieu of elbow mac) and usually use cubed Spam for that, which works well.

Even though I can't make and eat most of the foods in these ads anymore, I still love looking through them and am always glad to see a new batch from your seemingly bottomless supply of them, Louie. Thanks for sharing them with us!

My folks adhered to Lenten meals until the church said they could consume meat because of their age. I have kept the tradition so far. It really isn't hard to do.

Reply 67: I believe I found a good knife-and-fork lunch sandwich in the Tuna Cheesewiches. I can use two slices of low-carb bread. Have everything else in the pantry and fridge. Even have a toaster oven to melt the cheese on top. Perfect!

I make Grilled Tuna and Cheese Sandwiches all the time and they are really good.  Just make your tuna salad the way  you like it.

I put about 1/4 cup finely diced celery, 2 tb mayonnaise, 1/4 tsp mustard and 1 tb sweet pickle relish and a couple of good shakes of ground black pepper into 1 5oz can of drained oil packed, solid packed Albacore for 2 sandwiches.  For 2 sandwiches of course you’ll need 4 slices of bread.

On each slice of bread I place 1 thin slice of Sharp Cheddar cheese (I us pre sliced cheese), then 1/2 of the tuna salad mixture on two of the slices, cover with the other slice of bread and cheese, butter each side lightly and grill over med low heat for about 4-5 mins per side.  They are delicious and make a great dinner with a bowl of Tomato Soup.

Eddie
