I hate that my speed queen does the first spin on slow speed,i was thinking maybe I could do a jumper wire where the motor would only be a one speed any ideas?

SQ TL 2 Speed To 1

It would not be hard to do, the only side effect would be that you would always have hi speed unless you installed a switch maybe on the back of the console in case you wanted lentil agitation.

It may be annoying but you might gain nothing from it. If your machine spins on top speed for 3 minutes in the final spin, there is hardly any room for improvement.

A pressure cooker comes in handy, too.

I don't think it would be wise to put lentils in anything other than a solid tub machine, but it probably wouldn't matter which speed was used for their agitation.  Maybe just less time with regular agitation.  But then again, what do I know?

My bad for not realizing that this cooking tip was what prompted the OP's question, but I guess it would eliminate the need to pick through such a large quantity of lentils.  I generally use lentils a pound at a time, so even using a GE mini basket seems like overkill to me.

Great discussion!  Keep the comments coming!

I think lentil action is appropriate only in machines capable of doing boil washes. Otherwise the lentils would remain not soft but hard.

And of course one would want to disengage the drain pump so all the cooked lentils are not lost to the town sewers, nor to the back yard septic tank.

Some who dislike lentils may be of the opinion that they all come from the septic tank anyway. I could not possibly comment further on that.

Rich, maybe an authorized Speed Queen expert has privileged information about a lentil softening agent that can be used in the provided dispenser and we ignorant lesser enthusiasts are simply unaware of it.
