I don't think it would be wise to put lentils in anything other than a solid tub machine, but it probably wouldn't matter which speed was used for their agitation. Maybe just less time with regular agitation. But then again, what do I know?
My bad for not realizing that this cooking tip was what prompted the OP's question, but I guess it would eliminate the need to pick through such a large quantity of lentils. I generally use lentils a pound at a time, so even using a GE mini basket seems like overkill to me.

I think lentil action is appropriate only in machines capable of doing boil washes. Otherwise the lentils would remain not soft but hard.
And of course one would want to disengage the drain pump so all the cooked lentils are not lost to the town sewers, nor to the back yard septic tank. Some who dislike lentils may be of the opinion that they all come from the septic tank anyway. I could not possibly comment further on that. |
