Aloha all,
I've a 19 year old Maytag top load washer, model number LAT2500AAE in which the plastic agitator splines are worn to the point where the agitator wobbles considerably on the transmission shaft, the tiny retaining set screw is tight and secure.
I've looked extensively for a replacement part, to no avail, it's been obsolete for some time now.
The agitator still moves with the transmission shaft but I fear that in time that the splines will wear out further to the point where it won't.
Can anyone suggest a fix in an effort to "build up" the splines or know where else I should look for a NOS part?
I hate to condemn the machine, it's been ultra reliable, and, as we all know the new washers on the market now are garbage, with the exception of a Speed Queen.

TIA!

Hi Jeff, these are very easy to find on Ebay or probably from a used appliance shop where you live.

most curious as to where you have been searching.....as they are in abundance on ebay.....straight vane, Load Sensor, white, blue, black, pitman trans, orbital trans, norge built, whirlpool built, powerfin, filtered, non filtered, dispenser cap, plain cap......and that was just in the first two pages...variable prices and shipping to match....

but no matter what your machine was built with, I suggest upgrading to a Load Sensor...

Ebay is your best bet although shipping to Hawaii will sting a little.

I would still recommend removing the agitator and confirming there's no slop in the agitator shaft.
