So the Superba has been fine until last night when this noise started.

Sounds like the impeller to the pump is bad.

Is this a pump replacement? I know the pumps are no longer made, right?

I hate to ditch this machine to buy a new dishwasher.

It is either a loose plastic cooling fan on the top of the motor or something in the pump hitting either the wash or drain impeller.

I'm going to attempt to remove the pump cover tomorrow. I've looked at a few videos on YouTube. Anything special I should know?

I would check for the loose fan first, you can do that with your finger without removing any parts.

If the fan is loose on the motor shaft yo will need to remove the entire pump and motor and either replace the motor assembly or you may be able to epoxy the fan blade on the motor shaft after you completely have removed the assembly and dissembled it.

If the fan is still attached to the motor shaft you can dissemble the pump while it is still installed in the DW and look for foreign objects or broken wash pump impeller etc.

No foreign materials in the pump assembly whatsoever.

However the seal for the drain pump is completely deteriorated.

I was trying to find one online, but seems they are no longer available.

Looks like it's the cooling fan on the motor. I have looked (without success) all over Ebay, as well as appliance part sites for replacement gaskets before I attempt to remove the motor and pump assy. The pump also needs new gaskets.

Any idea where to locate them, or should I use sealant?

John,

Update 3/1/21

Looks like it IS the cooling fan blade on the motor.

Initially, I was unsuccessful finding the gaskets needed on eBay. However I refined the search to "Whirlpool with part number" and "FSP and part number". And wouldn't you know it? I found the motor mount gasket!

I still need a drain pump gasket. No luck on eBay, but I did find it as "special order" on the Coastal Parts site in CA. I will call them this morning to make sure that they can order this part.
