At my mom's and was using her 2005 Kenmore 80 and noticed it has 3 agitation speeds: Heavy Duty/(Fast), Normal/Delicate (slow) and Handwash (Extra Slow). I thought 3 speeds for agitation had gone out years ago.

Better direct-drives had 3-speed motors.

Many KitchenAid models with the larger agitator used the middle speed for high agitation, lowest speed for low agitation.  My 1991 model KAWE760W has such, and runs through 2 mins each on the three speeds lowest to highest for stepped final spin on Perm Press.  The parents had a 1994 KAWE670B that did the same.

I have a 1999 110.20907990 Kenmore 90, 3-speed.  A 2002/2003 Whirlpool GSQ9669L and a 2000/2002 GSX9885J (Catalyst).

A nice looking DD there.

I tend to like to use the middle speed for agitation (~120 SPM) and run the cycle time a bit longer (vs. a shorter time and the high speed). Similar to the KitchenAid as DADoES mentions above.

Does anyone know what year Kenmore started using the lid that lifted straight back like in this example?
