aaaa, we have a wanted/reward page here. What a great idea though for a for sale page!

When we first broke away from the Yahoo! groups format, we had a wanted/for sale classifieds section but there were some "issues" with ads being placed there by "outsiders" and not-so-honest folks as well as internet scammers from Africa. It was decided that those members who would like to offer things for sale should post them in the regular forums which seems to have quelled the problems completely.

IMO Wanted/Reward page is highly discriminatory, and tends to give those who don't know any better false hopes of getting rich on their old machines. They always fail to remember the fine print about the "prices paid for the machines are dependent on the condition of the machines",etc. What they remember is the HIGHEST price offered. Then you have to try to wake them up from their dream. What a hassle.
I have personally run across this problem at least THREE times.

It would be great to have a site dedicated to items for sale/wanted, however I wonder if it would be worth the trouble to keep up with. Plus, I have known of people who would not honor their commitments to follow through with the purchases and angering the club member who they were dealing with.

In any event, there will never be selling, buying, or trading on an equal ground in "our group" as everyone seems to have their favorites.

Yeah, yeah, I know-----my two shekels.

Nope

I'm not going through all that trouble again. If someone has something they want to sell they can just post it in a message in the appropriate forum. The foreign spammers wont go through all the bother of doing that.

I too am new to this site and was wondering if it is appropriate to list an item or items for sale.

I have a '56 Kenmore semi-automatic and a '67 GE top loading dishwasher both ready to use, as well as several wringer machines and parts.

I offer a generous discount to forum members.

Thank you all for making this forum possible and saving our Americana from the scrap heap.

Hi Mike! I bought a wonderful Hotpoint stove from you a few years back!

(Mike is a good guy and a great craftsman. You can trust him to have quality stuff.)

... a classified section is a bad idea but...

how about a wiki? a piece of software that once installed is essentially a blank encyclopedia we can all edit. wouldn't it be awesome if all the incredible knowedge of the folks on the site could be in one place?

okay, maybe i'm a dork.

how about a wiki?

Eric actually that is a brilliant idea. I will check into Wiki software (I wont write it this time, I've done enough of that) and see how much work it would be to integrate it with the website.

It would be great to put the all of our repair knowledge and history into an washer wiki! Leaving out the drama that is, LOL.

No drama?

But, Robert, we demand drama! We *want* to see you in those sleeveless T's sweating away under or over or in one of your problem children.
And we could have an extra section of the wiki on what to wear for which problem.
Getting transmission grease out of diamond tiaras.
How to swing a torque-wrench without ruining your nail polish.
Enquiring minds want to know!
(Sorry, my boyfriend is stuck on another continent right now and my one track mind has slipped its clutch.)
