Hello everyone.

I has a Bosch dishwasher installed today, but the installer removed the insulation blanket. I asked him why and he said it wasn't needed. Is this true? Now I'm stressed about it because it's not as quiet as I hoped it to be. And I have no idea why he left it out in the first place. Should I call and have them put back the insulation blanket?

I would, it's absurd they would not install it. It's not like there isn't room for it particularly if the Bosch replaced a US sized machine it's now leaving even more of a gap

May I ask ......

how old the installer was? Just curious......

The installation manual I bet doesn't mention it is optional.

Call back and ask for the blanket to be installed before the joker who told you it wasn't required throws it out.

Yes, it is necessary for a quieter dishwasher, especially if you have an open concept home.

I called them

Monday is the soonest they can reply. Meanwhile there's a Bosch 500 Series SilencePlus 44dBA washing that isn't very silent. ;P

Not “optional”

What a moron! That insulation does a few things:
1) Sound deadening-Most obviously as you now hear....
2) Keep the heat ‘in’ the DW making it more efficient and effective.
3) Keep the heat off the cabinets where it can cause damage over time

So yes, it must go back on.

Got to be one of the stupidest appliance installers EVER.

I would be furious. I wouldn't have allowed him not to install it.

If this is a new installation they are voiding the warranty and the terms of the sale. You can sue them with several angles here.

Just the hassle of having this happen is significant.

Even if it's a used item, unless your receipt specifically states that they are to remove the blanket, they are attempting to cheat you.  One main reason for buying this dw is because of the sound abatement.

Crazy Like A Fox Installer......

If an installer went to this amount of trouble, probably understood the value of he insulation, then intended to use it on another appliance.

Oh yeah no

That grey felt definitely belongs there.
What the hell?

Over here that blanket is coveted by side panels so you can't even remove it.
So I was confused at first.

Make sure he installed the insulation behind the kickplate as well.

Plays a huge roles as well.
Should either be a similar kind of material or a heavy rubber sheet of sorts that hangs from the DW to the floor.

Update

I've had no luck with the installation company. Numerous phone calls and hours of wait time, all resulted in them transferring me to the Bosch parts department. LOL..I will be going to Home Depot to settle this once and for all on Thursday. What a headache this has been.

Oh! and thank you to all that replied, I'm new here and I'd like to say "hello" to all of you.

Lowes.......

Nothing against Lowes, necessarily; but, believe most of us would have directed you back to Lowes, rather than the installer.

Cancel the charge?

chachp's profile picture

If you paid by credit card I would call them to cancel the charge with the reason given.  That will get someone's attention and you bet Home Depot will be able to get a hold of the installer.  I wouldn't settle for anything less than a new machine.

I don't know about the rest of you but when I buy anything major like that whether or not I have the cash in hand I always use a major credit card or if you have the option use PayPal.  I have had issues in the past and let them deal with it.

Especially because that part isn't even that cheap.

These things are like in the 50€ range over here, so probably the same in the US.

Working in an electronics store, our installers are not the best either.

It's an underpaid job with a lot of time pressure (you get paid by job, not by time).

You'll have to be stubborn with that.
I have to work with those people, it's annoying for us as well.

Sounds like they must be used to most of the American dishwashers where the insulation blanket is a fairly useless flimsy thing. Those Bosch blankets are very thick, and best of all, the blanket and machine are made that everything fits together and the blanket actually stays in place to do its job.
