when the first ones came out, most were single speed, and usually 1 or 2 cycles....but the one speed showed issues of clothing damage...
in later years, the "Normal" cycle changed to a lower speed agitation....note this machine has a Normal cycle, with Gentle/Knits incorporated into this portion... as well as a Heavy Duty cycle for high speed across the board... |

Around the start of the 60s, single-speed washers started having a SHORT cycle for delicates, alongside a NORMAL one. Starting c.1980, single-speeders had a PERMANENT PRESS I, while two-speeders had later had PERMANENT PRESS II. |
