I’m not sure they produced the “how dry am I” model in Australia Either way I’m excited to get it

Thank you,

Do you know if this is the same model as the “how dry I am” model?

Congratulations

If you remove the front panel, you should see a music box with 4 keys or bars with a striking mechanism if it is the model with that feature.

Oh cool thank you,

Do you know what models would specifically denote The music box model, And of how to remove the front panel? As I physically don’t have the machine yet

Hi Adam, the lower panel just pulls off by grabbing the sides and pulling forward, Some machines had unscrew in the bottom center just below the panel that you would have to remove first.

Great looking dryer

They do run hot, and with a new belt, run very quietly. One downside is that they tend to go through thermostats faster then other makes. My mom had a 1956, and dried a lot of our stuff on low heat. since yours does not have that option, I would watch the time that you set it for, until you get used to it. Beware of sheets, and Jeans, as they can scald your hands if you are not careful. Congratulations on scoring a real beauty.
Hugs
David

I guess I am kind of used to hot dryers

As both the The Miele and GE dryers Get their rated load done in about 40 minutes, although I’m expecting it to take a bit longer due to both of those driers being about 13 amps at 240V, although the Miele Can change in between 10 and 13 A

What size belt should I use? Is it a V-belt or

Is it a modern flat belt? If it uses V belts it’ll probably quite easy to try and find something that will fit not so much with the flat belt

Runs Hot

Has anyone tried to put a lower rated themostat in these dryers?

I heard that it’s not a good idea

As some models dry based on temperature Using a thermostat to know whether laundry is dry, imagine like the Sunbeam Radiante electric toaster but in a dryer format

Hi Adam, What is the Amp draw of this dryer, it may not have as large an element as the US versions ?

This dryer uses 2 V belts they should be easy to find IF needed, I would take it apart and look first the belts might be the least of possible things that are needed.

The amp draw on this dryer is 10A so when it arrives I’ll see how much at the motor draws, Do you also know if the model number denotes anything?

At only 10 amps at 240 volts you will not have to worry about it running too hot, US models would draw more than 20 amps.

Keep us posted this may be a good dryer.

Don’t worry I’ll let you guys know, although the seller

Says that they have not tested it, but I’m sure it’ll be somewhat simple and Yeah, I know that you guys have a weird 240 V system And the most I’ve seen our dryers draw is about 13 amps, Occasionally you get a dryer that says it takes up 20 amps Nothing really compare to your American dryers

Also I potentially heard that they might contain asbestos, if so what can I used to work at the Modern replacement for where the asbestos could be

Post# 1113868 , Reply# 17   4/6/2021 at 07:17 (1,110 days old) by Tomturbomatic (Beltsville, MD)

The asbestos is usually between the heater box and the bottom of the cabinet in these WH dryers to avoid scorching the floor.

The best thing to due with asbestos is to lease it ALONE, try not to disturb it in any way.

I’ll leave it alone,

Although if it’s in really poor condition, is there anything I could possibly use to replace it? I’m just curious

Post# 1113952 , Reply# 20   4/6/2021 at 22:30 (1,109 days old) by CircleW (NE Cincinnati OH area)

I suppose you could use some type of mineral fiber insulation in place of the asbestos if it became necessary.

EMAIL is an Australian manufacturing company.  The name is an acronym for Electricity Meter & Allied Industries Ltd.  Westinghouse was one of the brands they licensed to produce over there.
