KenMore Wringer Washer

Early 1950's Whirlpool wringer washer sold as Kenmore from Sears. Besides styling model number is dead give away; "110" as first part of Kenmore appliances then usually meant built by Whirlpool.

In most of USA Maytag and Sears/Kenmore battled it out for top spots when it came to wringer washers. That left Speed Queen, Dexter, GE and whoever was left to pick up what market share they could.

Maytag was the "Cadillac" of those machines and their pricing reflected this, but Whirlpool wasn't far behind in terms of features, design, build quality, etc...

Kenmore of course benefited from being part of Sears (where America shops). Thus perhaps had a slightly wider dealer range since their appliances could be ordered via famous Sear's catalog along with in store purchases. There was of course ability to use various credit/easy payment plans with Sears, so if one didn't have cash on the line to pay for a new washer.....

Whirlpool/Kenmore also offered lower priced models without all the bells and whistles. In their battle with Maytag Whirlpool kept upping their game with design features such as open top wringer (VisiMatic) (supposedly better to see and control what was being mangled), a lint filter in tub instead of under agitator like Maytag.

By late 1950's Whirlpool/Kenmore had dropped the skirt of wringer washers and had added features to TOL models that included built in timer with bell. Unlike Maytag's timer models (which seem to be rather few out there), WP/Kenmore models so equipped stopped agitation after set time elapsed, and rang a bell.

Whirlpool/Kenmore of course had famous Roto-Swirl agitator then later equally well known "Surgilator". In round tub of WP/Kenmore wringer washers those agitators gave better results by most reviews than Maytag's "Gyrafoam" type. The latter were great with square tub washers because currents generated caused water and laundry to go out to sides of tub, down and around.

Checkrate/Likes *the pants model go for it!!!* this machine is so neat!!! I have the booklet to it, but never had the machine. I do things some what different. some times I will buy the ad and then try to find the washer. it looks in great shape, good luck, the dry cleaner

Checkrate/Likes *First "Visi-matic"?* Kenmore machines are not my specialty, but I'm wondering if this could be the first Visi-matic? Someone with more knowledge of Kenmore might tell us.
