Not sure if this was posted previously.

Seller will be holding onto this set for a long time at that price.

Nice! That is incredibly amazing that a brand new set can go unused for over 60 years.

Wow New 1950s Hotpoint W&D

combo52's profile picture

I would say they are easily worth around $2,500 and they will probably get at least close to that amount or possibility more.

I would pay it in a minute if I did not already have a Pink pair of 1957 minty Hotpoints at the museum.

Hope someone here gets them.

John L.

How cool is this? I love these very rare finds and at that price they won't last long.

This is absolutely amazing. The asking price is fair for what they are - a band new 1956 Hotpoint set! The dryer is indeed a condensing dryer (10LG11), and I have to wonder if the tub guard was flipped up like it is on the washer for shipping.

I hope whoever does save this fantastic set shares their save here on AW.

Ben

The button on the dryer on the far right, I cannot quite make out the first word, but the bottom word is "only" I believe. The wonder dial. Harriet Nelson would be so proud of her new set.

Bob, it appears to say "Tumble Only". Pretty nice features for a 1956 dryer - four fixed temps plus a no heat option. Not too far off from a '56 Kenmore.

While it wasn’t requested, here are the specs for the dryer

What a awsome set. Our 1st washer was a 55 Hotpoint but BOL model. I hope this will go to a good home!

Ben, thank you. And I agree, a very nicely-featured dryer for 1956. So it's the condenser model. Hmm.

Is that a water condenser or an air to air heat exchanger?

Condensing or Heat Pump?

Although I’m not interested in this set if they were sitting on my showroom floor I’d ask every bit of that and honestly probably closer to double. The BIG assumption is that the units are in fact, cosmetically perfect and in 100% working condition.

Wouldn’t there be a lot of hard/ rotten rubber?

Not sure what the condition of the rubber hoses are in but I ended up having to replace a rubber hose on my 1963 Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII since the rubber was hard and compromised and was leaking on the pump outlet to the lint filter but all the other rubber hoses seemed to be in decent shape.

More than likely will need some sort of work done to them if someone wants to get them up and going again and will need a oil change on the transmission since the oil has sat for close to 66 years.

Those look like the machines my former neighbors Nelson and Thelma had from when they moved in, in 1958, until they got the GE Versatronic set in the late 60's.

swestoyz's profile picture
That's always a crapshoot (what environment was it stored in, did anyone smoke nearby the machines, etc.). I've seen some NOS machines or barely used machines where all the rubber was as soft as it was new, some where all the rubber had turned to fossil, and then you get the machines were everything is fine except the outer tub boot.

Once the vintage appliances groups on FB find this, it won't take long. And for the record, since the OP threw out a challenge to us who felt it was priced appropriately, if I didn't have an already found new Hotpoint solid tub washer I most certainly would have hit the BIN button yesterday morning.

Wow!  An used set, still together after all this time!!  Y'all know I can't even think about this due to that border thing...  But if I could.... Sigh.

But I concur with Ben... 60+ years in storage can do very bad things to rubber and other components.  I had to replace just about every hose and belt on the unused '56 GE combo before I installed it in 2009.  Added bonus that all the wiring and the dry thermostat sensor wire had been chewed to fragments by mice.  Don't get me going about the dishwasher... LOL

Seller dropped price, then turned around and raised it back up about a day later.

Maybe they see high number of "watchers" and or perhaps private messages as sign there is keen interest in these items.

$225 As I said before they would already be on the way here if we didn't a TOL 1957 pink pair of almost unused Hotpoints , this is certainly the best vintage W-D buy this year so far.

While NOS excites me, it's tough to tell what's dirt and dust, and what's porcelain chips and paint nicks. I'd like to think a seller asking $2k would take the time to run a damp cloth over them, but I learned a long time ago never to assume.

This auction is like watching the stock market

launderess's profile picture
Down one day, up the next.

BIN price is now $2,125, but who knows what seller will revise it to next day or week.

Seller should just start opening bid at bottom line lowest price will accept, then let things go from there......

Years ago more sellers would have used reserve pricing, but Fleapay has messed that about so fewer bother nowadays.

With 29 "watchers" would say there is interest. That hasn't translated into a sale yet, but that could be for any number of reasons.

Price has dropped down to $2000 last time checked.

Quite a few of those 29 watchers could just be people wanting to see if it sells and for how much. I’ve added things to my watch list many times for that very reason, having no intention to bid on the item.

I have talked to the young person that bought these and they said they are in perfect condition.

I will ask if they want me to announce who got them or wait for them to announce.

In any case there will be more information coming.

Looks as if deal was done outside of fleaPay which puts more (well all actually) of money in seller's back pocket.

Seller did drop price down to $1750.....
