Thought I'd start a pic thread-- of the kind we are all interested in.

Let's try to include the name-brand of the washer and a brief description. Full-frontal preferred!

Please~ The image of your pussy-gato, dog, car, etc. are appreciated, but maybe not in this thread! :-)

Here is a General Electric top-loader with plastique tub, probably near BOL.

It is in the basement of a commerical buildng near Canal Street in the Chinatown section of Manhattan, (New york, NY). The area is artsy-fartsy.

Marilyn Monoe, supervising.

Those worthy of it would probably get a paddling or at least a good spanking.

Great thread Toggleswitch, I just love looking at pics.

All my pics are in my photo collection so I won't bore you with them again. However, I have come across this old pic of an AEG Lavamat. Does anyone know much about it?

A friend of mines mother had one and it spun at 800rpm and had a quiet induction motor.

Considering where it's installed, the LG is probably a combination.

Here's my former 1998 Kenmore 80 installed in the then-unfinished Studio section, which I no longer have.

washer and dryer

Very nice set Whirlcool!! I remember seeing those exact same ones here in Maine at a dealer and pining for them when they were brand new. I dont know if the sold many of them but I do know that they sold plenty of other model Whirlpools and Maytags. My Maytag A613 I bought a few years ago for about 150 bucks and it was used. The washer was hardly used and the woman that had it "upgraded" to a Neptune. I wonder if she is kicking herself for it now. The A613 runs very quietly. Every time I use it I think of my grandmother since she had an A608. She taught me how to do laundry as a kid. She took my by the hand at 2 years old and what began as something that I should know has turned into something that I wont forget. She is gone now but that memory will always live with me.
She used to have a Bradford and Whirlpool wringer washers in the basement that she would use when she didnt want to use the Maytags. One washer would be the wash and one the rinse and my grandfather had taken the wringer off the Whirlpool and my grandmother would use the wringer on the Bradford. The wash would go from one into the other and then from the rinse washer into a tub with a hose attached at the bottom. She would fill it with water and the clothes and blueing and drop the hose to the floor and let the water swirl out of it. she had a hose that filled the water into the tub at an angle..hence the swirling. Ran the clothes thru the wringer again and out to the lines. It was a labor of love and alot of work.

Frigidaire front loader and dryer---stacked arrangement

I bought this pair in March 2006 after my old washer died. You can see a metal pipe (concrete filled) to the right of the machines. That is called a "bollard" and is required by county (Orange County, CA) building code when the laundry area is in the rear of a garage. To the left of the machines (partly visible) is a gas water heater. To the right of the machines is the furnace. Hence, there are three gas lines that could be severed by an out of control automobile. The bollard prevents a car from taking out three gas lines and a 40 gallon water heater. Some of the homes in our neighborhood were built with the laundry area in a side alcove---this arrangement does not require a bollard.

If you remove the pipe, it's out of compliance with building code, and it would have to be replaced if one wanted to sell the house. So to get a front loader--whose door would be blocked by the pipe--I bought a pair and stacked them. Even a 15" pedestal would not raise the washer high enough to avoid interference from the pipe.

I placed two folding TV trays in the washer space, and they serve as an adequate folding table. I have seen some homes in which the bollard was right at the juncture of the washer and the dryer, so that a front loading door wouldn't be in the way, but the house was built in 1988 and there were no domestic front loaders being sold in US at the time (you could buy imported Miele's, etc.). So they probably figured it didn't matter if the pipe was right in front of the washer or not.

This is the model FTF 2140 washer and FGQ 1442 dryer. The dryer isn't the biggest around, at 5.7 cu ft, but I can dry a king size comforter in it if I remove it once to turn it inside out. In my case, an important feature is that it stacks, so that I can enjoy a front loader without an expensive modification to the laundry area.

I bought the pair from Howard's (large local retailer) in large part because they were open on Sunday (the only day I could shop) and they could guarantee delivery the next Wednesday, the only weekday when I could be home to accept delivery/installation. I later learned that a more discounted retailer (Univeral Appliance in LA) sells for less, and they sell the next higher model (2940) for the same as I paid for my 2140. About the only major difference is automatic temperature control....I guess that is useful if your washer is a long ways from the water heater, but my washer is adjacent to the heater.

So far, very happy with the pair's performance. Final high speed spin gets clothes dry enough that they're finished in the dryer in 30-40 minutes. Rebates were $100 from water district and $35 from gas company.

PS: the machine is level---my camera was not! ;)

Dryer controls. I dislike machines with TOO many cycles. I've used all of the dryer and washer cycles at least once in six months (never used rinse/spin or drain/spin, but have used all the others)

only one problem with the washer

The crease in the rubber boot does not drain thoroughly at the end of wash cycle. About 2-3 oz (60-90 ml) of water remain. Some models such as Duets have drain holes in the 6 o'clock position, but I've never inspected such a machine at the end of cyle to verify that the boot is really dry.

To avoid mold problems, I wipe out the boot after the last wash of the day with a handtowel and throw the towel in with the last load into the dryer. We had record-breaking heat this year and the garage (no A/C) got very hot, but no mildew or mold problems whatsoever.

When I was in Germany in May, I noted that even people with high-end Mieles left their washer doors ajar, presumably to air out the machine and prevent mold growth.

Toggle,

I love that Maytag Dependable Care. Beautiful TOL model IIRC. I guess it must be from around 1997? I think that model was on the Maytag website when I found my way to the internet in that year. Maytag had a very simple website with a lot of drawings, I guess a website with a lot of pictures was too expensive. A lot has happened since that time!

Hugs from the other side of the big pond,

I had a 24" kenmore that went directly into spin. At first I thought there was something wrong with the clutch slipping, but realized there was no pause in the timer after a few minutes of drain.

Answer to Toggleswitch re: use of "Sport" cycle on

Here is it, copied from the pdf manual:

"Sport
This cycle is designed for small loads of lightweight, synthetic
apparel worn for working out, running, swimming, cycling,
tennis and similar activities when removal of light soil and
perspiration are important. Items will tumble occsionally as they
soak for 10 minutes. Reversing tumble wash action will
continue for 6 minutes followed by 3 rinses and a final spin.
For best results, select a detergent that contains enzymes and
the hottest wash water safe for the load. Add a detergant
booster, color safe bleach or odor eliminator with the detergent
if needed. Chlorine bleach should not be used on items
containing Lycra™. Fabric softeners reduce wicking and are
not recommended for garments made to pull moisture away
from the body."

This would be useful for a family with lots of kids in sports like football, baseball, soccer, etc.

well, maybe not football or baseball. This cycle doesn't sound as if it's meant for ground-in dirt. It sounds like it's for loads of sports clothes with lots of perspiration but not a lot of ground-in dirt. Most of my athletic clothes are cotton, so the cycle is rarely used.

No arms and No legs

A women posted a classified and said she wanted a man who wouldn't beat her, wouldn't leave her and was great in bed.

The door bell rang a few days later and there was a man with no arms and no legs.

"Can I help you," she inquired?

"Yes," the man replied, "I am responding to your ad."

"I don't understand," the women said.

"I can't hit you, I have no arms and I can't leave you, I have
no legs."

"But, I wanted someone great in bed," lamented the women.

"How do you think I rang the doorbell," the man replied.

Have you seen Gary juggle those blue balls? I understand no feet are involved.

Its hard not to be jealous when two amazing people, with so many excesses of personality, intellect, beauty and material gifts combine. It is good to witness. It's kind of like watching an old movie where the heroes ride off into the sunset on a highways of suds.

I love you guys. NO ONE deserves it more. Live, love, wash and "juggle" to your hearts content and let the old women rend their garments in despair.

Now this is a thread worth pursuing.

I bought these GE frontloaders last February when my good old Kenmores died. I'm really happy with them. My clothes come out cleaner than with the old washer and it uses a lot less water. As my house remodel progresses, these will be moved inside to a combination office/wash room where they will stay nice and clean and not have stuff piled on top.

Mielemore

The Miele looks just like the Sears combos from the late 60's. Did they ever sleep together in design?

My Aeg Lavamat 72720 Update

Here is the picture of my Aeg Lavamat 72720. I found this machine near a trash can. It had a bad relay on the electronic motor drive. It's perfect now!

Another oldie...

This Miele is from early eighties. I found it trashed and it only had a broken belt! Too bad discard a machine who neither reached its thirties...

More Mieles

These are my Miele professional WS5426 (1200 rpm),the dishwasher is a Miele G 591 sci and a Miele microwave. Both washer and dishwasher were rescued from the trash. The washer is a professional model. It has a drum of 57 lt and front and top made of inox steel. It had a bad solder joint on one of the electronic boards. The dishwasher had a problem with its water meter.

Here's a picture of a Miele ad with the classic Miele that looks like the Kenmore combo. It's the second from the left. The third is a bigger machine with a somewhat bigger capacity.

I can tell by the shape of the lid and of the wooden backplate.

Long time no see. :) I was wondering where the legendary you went, but I'm now happy to see you back here posting. I still remember (think about) the BOL GE you left at the old house, and how the motor tripped out after it suds locked due to the machine having no cluth. Anyway I love the machines in this thread and thank you for starting it.

Merry Christmas Steve. I've mised you and been worried about you and glad to see you're still vertical and stirring up life around you!!!

Steve, avocado LK portable is the exact color and model washer I bought used in fall of 1977 after moving into an apartment. The couple also had the matching dryer I bought. When I got transferred across town and rented an apartment with connectoins (GE FF set), I sold the pair to one of my best friends from high school as they had two in diapers and lived in apartment without connections. He eventually had to replace the transmission but the set lasted them for several years.

I'm loving your 77 LK portable washer. It looks like new.

I picked up a coffee colored one in about 1984 from Goodwill, when they still sold appliances. It had the optional add-on temperature controller and water valve that plugs into the back with a molex plug. I wonder if yours has the plug?

And that custom control panel on your GE... who knew masking tape and a wide red magic marker could make such a huge difference.

I always thought the penta-swirl agitator was very good, it cleaned well yet didn’t overwork the clothes.
