Haven't seen this one here before.

www.whirlpool.com/laundry...

There don't seem to be any videos of it yet, besides this one of it being lifted by a crane...

Hmmm

I guess it makes sense?

Manual recommends post in for everyday use, out for bulky and delicate.

Don't see why this was needed, but don't see a reason why not to do it...

Nothing new here it was introduced here in the 1960`s with the Servis Hi-Zone snap on power fin to give a more vigerous wash , remove it for a more delicate wash .

Similar was done with the Blackstone wasnt it ?

GE had a similar concept with the MiniBasket.

I stumbled across this on Lowes' website about 2 months ago being stated as an exclusive at Lowes.

1) An extra piece to get lost.

2) It's not dual-action one-way auger, doesn't have much usable effect, largely psychological to the user.

IMO

DADoES

I was looking for the same info, and was going to mention the same thing. It is nearly pointless if the agitator is not a dual action type. As you can see with the LG agitator, it does not help much with rollover. The GE TL machines that are dual action IME work quite well.

Looks like something the marketing department designed.

Industry first ?

I don't know how they can say this is an "industry first" idea. Westinghouse and Hotpoint had removable agitators and Sears had one that you could dial in the lower fins, all to "customize the washer to any load the customer whats".

Might Be "New" For Europe

But top loading washing machines sold in USA offered two different agitators going back to 1970's or so. Hotpoint is but a case in point: www.automaticwasher.org/c...

It had long been recognized that washing machines with central beaters could (and some did) cause excessive wear on laundry, especially delicate items. Until two speed motors came along oft standard advice was simply to keep wash and rinse times short thus lessening the batting about things were subjected.

As time wore on however in order to kick up their game washing machine manufacturers began to address all of Madame's laundry. Slips, nylons, dainty underthings and sleepwear, etc... were still being washed by hand in many households as women were loathe to subject their nice things to harsh machine washing. Idea coming up!!!! Why not offer a "hand wash" agitator?

My GE filter-flo

had a minibasket feature. It's more than likely making somewhat of a comeback.

I remember back in late 60s early 70s

There was a machine, I think it was Westinghouse that had a hand wash agitator under the regular agitator.

The GE mini-basket was for small loads that could be washed on the gentle cycle, however, the mini-basket fit the contours of the regular agitator, it was just smaller and held only a few items.

We had a Mini-basket, I can honestly remember it being used maybe once in 18 years.

Quite honestly, my mother was the type if it couldn't be washed and dried on a regular cycle, she didn't buy it. Exception was my Dad's good Sunday go to meeting suit, and maybe her Dress-dresses, even then Dry cleaning was a rarity .

JCPenney had (Hotpoint clone) models with a hand-wash agitator under a removable regular agitator.

It could have been the JC Penny/Hotpoint

I just remember the commercial where they take the main agitator off, and there is a slinder, almost pole like agitator underneath.
