Wanted to create this post to thank all the people who helped me through this.
Both people on this website and outside this website like Ralph who kindly sent me the shaft seals otherwise costly to get through other sources. After new seals and new transmission it lives. The beauty seems to work beautifully no leaks. | ||

I got the transmission off eBay, the old one is completely seized. At least the wig wag shafts. Guess badly oxidized/rusted inside due to water damage. Still have to open it and see if I can save it. Must be a gunky mess inside. The transmission I got an eBay I paid quite a bit for shipping and the transmission itself wasn't that much, in total was 160 bucks. Seller told he would ship the best one he had and I actually thought to get one in better shape. But I think I must consider myself lucky to have found one at least. The agitator shaft was better in this new one but the spin tube was heavily damaged corroded where seals sits, so I used mine. So in case I will fix the other transmission I will need a new agitator shaft and spin tube. On that note I wanted to ask you something because I noticed something weird. I noticed that when spinning empty the agitator wouldn't move along with the basket but would slow down and spin slower. This didn't happen with the old tranny. I don't think it's normal and I cannot figure it out why. Agitation and spin by full goes as supposed, that's because agitator gets caught up with clothes and moves along with them, I think. I don't know if this is a precursor of a transmission going bad too, and my only fear is that on half loads the agitator shaft seal will spin around the agitator shaft and that will shorten its lifespan, because not only will have to withstand the back and forth friction but also the spin friction of the spin tube+seal while spinning. 80s BD Whirlpool Washer Hi Freddy, The fact that the agitator does spin or does not does not indicate any looming problem, If the steel ball had fallen out of the plastic support bearing the washer will not spin worth a damn.
I too have wondered whether having the agitator not turning during spin would increase agitator shaft seal wear, but I have never seen it cause a problem, But I like the way you think.

I know exactly what John is talking about when the steel ball falls out of the plastic support bearing. I had that happen with my Kenmore compact washer and tried washing a load of towels in it and they literally were dripping wet as if they hardly were spun out at all. Since I put the 5/16” steel ball back in it works like it should. The older Whirlpool belt drive washers don’t have that steel ball in the support bearing (unless a different transmission was installed) and have a little bit of a different setup in terms of the support bearing compared to the later belt drive washers.

Plus, who knows where the ball went as I did not find anything laying around and if the cat found it sure played with it and pushed it only God knows where. I thought it was what made it spin but I just wondered things as it is the only wrong thing I thought of that could have gone wrong without me realising it. The seal increased wear is what immediately came to mind. True that I rarely do partial loads but since I want to pass this washer to my sister when I will leave I just want it to be reliable and live a long life. | ||
