The fully (well, VERY close to fully) restored GM Frigidaire 1-18!!! YAY!!!!!!

YAY!

OMG, CONGRATULATIONS, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!! THE 1-18 WIG IS IN THE BASEMENT AND RUNNING AGAIN! Fantastic work, that machine looks just MINT now. Can't say that mine looks as good as that one! If you need any parts, let me know.

With a capful of high-sudsing detergent, you'll certainly get some good lather! I've found that Fab or Fresh Start works great if you want to watch the turnover in a controlled-suds wash.

Looks great Jamie! Much better than the 1971 model I had in harvest gold. That model really looks nice in white. And yours looks to be in minty fresh condition!

Contrats!

Wow Jamie, thanks for those much need 'drama' shots - these machines are so much fun to just watch! This machine looks just wonderful. What is the story behind it?

Thanks for all the wonderful comments! I got very lucky in finding this machine in SUCH good shape! All it needed was a paint job on the sides, a little cleaning up, and it still needs some tweaking of sorts in the tranny. I think I may need to buy some plexiglass for it however, lol! My only complaint about this machine is that it's not avacado, but i still love it!! I just LOOOOOOOOVE how loud it is too!!!! I can't hear anything over it!!!! YAY!!!!!!

Beautiful Machine

Congrats Jamie. I just love 1-18's and this is a real beauty. I'm shocked the rinse was so clear after that heavy suds wash load. (or was that a second rinse?) What type of detergent were you using? Well, you'll have many happy jet-action wash loads in this one. Enjoy!

Patrick

I too was surprised by how clean the rinse water was after that large amount of suds in the wash water. Is this due to the 1140 RPM spin?
The 1-18 does look really nice with the white and that control panel. I think if you could find one in Almond, it would look the absolute best!

:-O And I thought this thread was about me!!!! LOL.

Just kidding... Jamie that is an excellent machine. I'm glad you finally got it up and running - I just knew you would!

I love the action shots... very splashy indeed! What detergent is that you used? It looks very pretty, similar to Bold powder here. That rinse looks very clear too... does it spray rinse at all during the wash spin?

Congratulations bud, and I will log onto AIM and catch up soon... I promise!

All the best,

Jon

P.S. Does that say Pampers on your hand?

I used orignal scent Tide with Bleach powder! There is a cheapo GFS fabric softener in the rinse though. This washer doesn't spin at 1140 RPM, those are the Unimatic machine from the late 40's and the 50's. This machine spins at... what 660 RPM isn't it? There is a very long spray rinse during the wash spin, that got rid of most of the suds. It helps a lot with this machine that I have very high water pressure which really helps to make each spray in the jet circle spray very strong so more water is moved through the clothes during the spray rinses.

the suds are unreal, look like meringue for a lemon pie
so glad you let it go crazy and showed us the unedited--uncleaned-up!-- results
is the 1-18 more fun than the unimatic
I hope that's not a cheat sheet inked on your hand !!! haha
Boy I'd love to have a 1-18
Thanks for letting me see the joy
