If that is a Whirlpool wringer then type is what they called "Mercury", and tension is automatically set, no adjustment by user.
Maytag and many other makers of wringer washers either only offered automatic tension setting, and or also customer adjusted. Makers of all sorts of wringers and mangles had no end of problems with users making things so tight (in aid of extracting more water), that it caused damage to both textiles and equipment. For Maytag wringers one could increase tension by adding a second or different (cannot remember atm) set of of bearings. Don't know if that is possible with Whirlpool, but the service manual is available in library for downloading. |

Just clamp it closed and that should do the trick. |
