That is an interesting read. I just wish I knew how that maps to US Extra HOT, HOT, WARM, COOL and COLD. Guessing it would be impossible because it's different between manufacturers.

It's a relief to see that less hot temps are needed to do a good job these days.

Yes, sadly there isn't a federal or any other standard as to what "Very Hot", or "Hot", "Very Warm", etc... actually translate into temperature wise.

Maddening thing is no matter which side of pond your washer is made there's no mandate it reach and maintain set temperature either.

Selecting "Very Warm - 120F or 50C) may get you that target temp and thermostat may turn heater on and off to maintain during cycle. Then again machine may only reach 110F, etc.. then that will be that.

One thing like about my older Miele washer is long as timer is still in wash cycle if temp drops below what is set, heater will kick in regardless. Have seen Big Bertha click on thermostat just before timer moved over to drain wash water and begin rinsing.

Target temperatures for ATC can vary via software/firmware control for a given temp selection from one cycle to another, and also from one model to another or firmware version/series of a given model within a manufacturer's line.

Found that CDA link states what myself and others have been saying, for especially white cottons and linens results are better at 60 C than washing at lower temperatures.

If you want to keep your bed linens white and that includes shifting or preventing yellow marks, use hot water for washing.

Reading that bit of advice you can understand why many European made washing machines got rid of 50 C/120 F to create a mandated or whatever "60/40 mix".

If pretty much same results can be had washing at 40 C/ 104 F (using good quality detergent and maybe booster like oxygen bleach), then the extra 16 degree difference makes nil worth bothering about.
