Hi everyone, long time viewer but just signed up since I purchased my first vintage appliance tonight. It’s a 1977 Inglis Citation 2 Speed Portable washer. In excellent physical condition, one owner, bought brand in 1977 while pregnant with her daughter. Anyways - got the machine home, plugged it in, all was well until a touch of burning plastic and smoke - turned the machine off, unplugged and left it for a bit. Came back and noticed that it no longer agitates but the motor kicks on and sometimes the belt will catch and it will agitate - new belt, no big deal. My question is, I’ll need to know what size/serial number of belt I need in order to get this little beauty back up to operating condition! Otherwise it had no issues - no leaks, motor strong, everything perfect until the belt gave way. I’ll attach photos of the machine and the build tag. Thanks in advance and I’m so excited to be here! This little Inglis is the apartment version of my great grandmas Inglis which she bought new in 76 when they built their house, so I definitely want to put any work necessary into it!

Congrats on the acquisition of your first vintage appliance. These are great washers and a lot of fun. I agree with Glenn to check if the pump is frozen and I would check the idler pulley and assembly and the rest of the pulleys in the drive system for good measure. The belt should be FSP part number 356402.

Thank you for the replies. Is the pump readily available? I am not sure if this is connected or not, but the lint filter portion was pumping water through, again not sure if it’s related. Regardless I am having my appliance repair friend come and take a look to ensure I don’t just throw parts at it. I am just hoping I can still get a new pump for it.

what would be your use if you found the full size version with its matching dryer?

Update: my little Inglis that could is back up and running, and flawlessly may I add. After the pump and belt replacement the water level pipe was off, and that was just fixed up today leaving me with a perfectly working Inglis Portable. I love this little thing! Doing an inaugural load of towels and I can already tell this is an excellent little unit. So happy!
I will be making an entire wash video for YouTube soon as well. 😄 thank you again to everybody here who helped figure this out with me. |

nice machine, kudos on finding parts and now he is up and running....
liking the chrome cap, dont think the US versions offered that... were you aware for these portable versions, the spin speed is 900rpms(even the full size units dont do that)....somewhat needed to work in conjunction with the 115volt dryer glad you joined us....Happy Waahing! |
