My family and I will be moving into a new house next month and the clothes washer and dryer are not included. I was wondering what the best brand and model for a family of 3 (plus one Labrador Retriever) would be. I haven't purchased appliances in over 15 years so am not up-to-date on new technologies. Right now we are leaning toward a top loader but are open to suggestions. Size shouldn't be an issue (plenty of room). Basically I'm looking for the best value (doesn't have to have all the bells and whistles), cleans well, isn't rough on clothes, and is energy efficient.. The rest of the appliances in the house (included) are Bosch if that matters. Thanks!

I'm no expert but I hear some good things about LG's top loader line. For the ones with the agitator (which would be my recommendation), I would check out the LG WT7005CW or the WT7305CW. Or the ones with the impeller, I would look into the LG WT7100CW or the WT7800CW.

And I would also look into LG's matching dryers as well.

don't feel bad. I keep up with it and it's still confusing. Anyway, I've watched LOTS of videos of what's out there on youtube, and I've narrowed down that an LG front loader with Turbo wash is the best. I trust this guy here. he's on this forum. He actually works on washers and does tons of videos and gives his opinions...In fact, I never would have considered LG until I started watching his videos. I'm not sure how good LG dryers are...If matching isn't a concern, I hear Whirlpool standard dryers (with lint screen on top) are the best designed and easiest to service dryers

I don't think he likes ANY of the HE top load washers. He likes the Maytag commercial Top Load washer though.

You obviously can't go wrong with Speed Queen as they are built like tanks.....but their wash action (at least for TL washers), isn't quite as good as the Maytag commercial TL washer.

Here's a video

For an old-school clean like when you were a kid, get the Speed Queen TC5 as Pierre suggested. If you want a modern washer that cleans and rinses excellently, get an LG front loader with Turbowash. It will clean a full load in about 30 minutes.

I double checked at inspection last night......we will need an electric dryer in the new house. Available footprint for two appliances is approximately 4'10" wide by 3' deep.

New Machines

For what it's worth here is my opinion on new machines:

As far as a standard traditional agitator washer, I would not hesitate buying a Speed Queen TC5, though I wish it had a speed selector and adjustable soil levels, or electronic display.
For more modern top load washer I would highly recommend an LG with the impeller. I just recommend that you use a slightly higher water temperature than you're used to and other cycles as appropriate. For instance, when washing a load you would select warm for, use hot instead. It will be close if not same temperature.
For front loaders I highly recommend the newer LG machines as stated above. I have a new Kenmore elite branded LG front load and it has been incredible. Again, I recommend using slightly higher temperatures than normal.
Keep us posted on what you decide and if you have any other questions. Good luck.

The Amana you can find for under $500. Many on this site hate them for whatever reason, but me and a few other have had good fortune with these types of machines. Some have had 10 years out of these machines.

No they won't last like a Speed Queen but will a modern Speed Queen last like a Speed Queen pre 2017?

Check out the Maytag commercial washer. Using more water will also flush out smells and odors.
