Front on close up

You can't read it on the pics just posted but the machine capacity reads 15LBS Dry weight.

Now birthed in San Francisco.
That MUST have hurt. (oh, BERTHED!)
(Please excuse me, no offense intended.)

I wonder why it has a wringer? If indeed bolted down wouldn't simply spining the wash-cylinder quickly achieve a damp-dry?

You've seen the tumblers that can't spin, that require an extractor. This must be one of those "berthed" babies.

I would have volunteered for laundry duty.

I need to teach Michael to Spell

This spelling boo boo wasnt me, it worrries me that these exec types can struggle with such simple words :) On the upside, it was his first message post to aw.org, even if it was under my name :)

I'm assuming the reason it doesnt spin, is the vibration that it would cause. Its probably the last thing you want on a tiny sub during war.

The other reason could be, that the sub was a WW2 vessel, and spinning anything around then was reasonabley uncommon.

American Laundry Machinery

American, only made wash only washers until 1962 . The 1st machine they made that extracted was a 100 lb model . They named it American Cascadex . It sold then for around 6000.00 an oturagous sum for that time. It had a Automatic Supply injestion and bosted a 600 rpm extract and took a 80 Amp Service to operate. It reuired 10 by 15 feet of concrete to hold it down.

Spindry on a Submarine

Maybe the high speed spin would create a noise and give it away for enemy subs with sonar, or something. I also wonder, did it wash with salt(ocean water)or fresh?

Would a salt-water prewash and a fresh water main wash and some fresh water rinses make sense?
