In with the not much newer. We bought this GE washer new in Jan. 2004. I know these are not highly respected but this one has faithfully cleaned our laundry for all these years with never a single repair. When the bearings started to scream during spin, I knew it’s days were limited. Thought about repairing it but that bearing is quite expensive and seems pretty labor intensive. I’ve had this Speed Queen sitting out in my workshop for a number of years and really wanted to put it into service. Found the Speed Queen at one of the electronic/appliance rental places all covered in mud and with a dent in one side. Brought it home, cleaned it up, put a new belt on. Continued to have slow or no spin issues in my trial runs, got a new idler kit, installed that, and here we go! Loving this washer so far. Now if I could find the matching dryer!

That’s a nice upgrade and will service you for many many years to come. Love these machines.

Love seeing the worst washer that could have ever existed replaced with the best washer that could've existed next to a Maytag Helical or BD Whirlpool.

Why do they have to match ?

That GE dryer was a decent performer at least till it wears out.

You're right, John. They don't have to match. They're seldom seen by anyone other than those of us who use them. The dryer is still working fine. It has always dried spot on using the auto dry cycle and med. heat setting. I pulled it out when I replaced the washer, cleaned and vacuumed all the lint out and checked those plastic glides that the drum rides on...not worn thin or broken through yet.

I have a GE dryer like the one you have. Mine is in a hair salon, so multiple loads of towels a day. It works great and now it is on its second washer. The matching GE washer was great also but started rusting on the top inside so decided to replace it. Gave it to a friend and he is still using it 4 years later. The washer was replaced with a Maytag "commercial" top loader. I would keep the dryer as long as keeps working.

.
I certainly did not get spot on auto dry accuracy with our SQ dryer.
Things can get crispy.

Nice pairing, the dryer is well worth hanging on to if you are able to keep ahead of the "bearings"
