Your whirlpool washer was built in 1969. What are the symptoms of your machine? How competent is your repair person? Generally these machines need the drive system rebuilt when they reach this age and a lot of them before that. Most repair folks won’t touch a job like this these days. The part being referred to is the “wig wag” or control magnet. Whirlpool part numbers are 89814 for the kit including the plungers or 84867 for the wig wag only.

Could be a broken wire.  The wigwag assembly oscillates whenever the motor runs which wiggles the wires that go to it.  Common with aging that a wire breaks from years of movement.  Also could be a problem with the safety lid switch.  Has the problem been fully diagnosed?
