After hearing about these machines, I now have the urge to get one and do a teardown and repair on it. I would like to learn about the weak points on the Neptune and see how well they wash.
My other interest is the Calypso, would love to see what makes that tick as well..
Anyone out there have either one they may be interested in selling for a reasonable fee?

 Hi! Dwight, are you referring to one of the older Neptune Models, without the Window on the Door, or are you referring to one of the newer Models with the Window on the Door? Are you also looking for a Matching Dryer {Gas or Electric or either}?

Are you looking for either a Whirlpool or Kenmore Calypso, of particularly one over the other?

I am looking for the 1997-1999 model as far as a Neptune. When it comes to a Calypso, whatever I can get will be fine!

I probably have 50 or so in the warehouse. I'd be happy to wholesale some to you. Most are the original 3000 models. I don't know what problems they might have and I wouldn't guarantee anything.

Also, I had the pleasure to have Steve (mayken4now) in the store a few weeks ago. Just ask him about all the newer pieces on the second floor. Hey, and Steve, I think I'm soon ready to part with some of the Maytags on the 3rd floor, including those coppertone models. I just bought a bunch of early cast iron stoves this past week & I need even more room.

Of all things, Tonight when looking through Craigslist, I found a 4000 series Neppie that refuses to spin, but is in nice shape cosmetically. After talking the owner down to 50 bucks I brought it home.

Good Luck with that. My 3000 series refused to spin...turned out to be the circuit board and wax motor.

I heard that you can replace the burned resistor on the board and wax motor for about 30-40 dollars.
If that is the case with this one, I will try it and see if it works.
Once the fellow at the appliance shop (that I frequent for oldies) found out that I can do component level board repair, offered me some work there in the hope of repairing oven, washer, dryer and fridge microprocessor controls. This would be a good experience for me and I might save some machines from getting scrapped.
Heck, it can't be any worse than the CNC equipment I used to fix.

Oddly, the machine washes and spins just fine? The lady said it didn't. She had a repair tech over that quoted her a bunch of money to fix. Naturally, she refused, then the tech offered to purchase it from her..
She got suspicious, but didn't want to spend the bucks for another service call from someone else. So, off to ABC Warehouse she went, bought a cheapie and called it a day.
Anyway, I noticed the resistor and triac have been replaced on the board, but not the wax motor. I am going to get the updated black plunger replacement just to be safe. I also checked the out of balance switches, and all was fine, not even any corrosion on the terminals.
All I can think, is the guy may have switched the board when checking out the machine, and forgot to switch it back.
The washer was made in April 1999 and (according to her) not used that much, or had any problems until now.

In case anyone wants to know more about servicing these, there is a TON of information about them on the internet! I learned a lot of valuable service tips in just a little while.

My set

 I have an older set and mine is picky when it comes to balanced loads. If it's not perfect, it won't spin out. It has just taken time to get it right but they clean great. They get out almost all stains I have put in there (I have 2 kids under 6 so you know what that means).

I bet the person selling it just wasn't using it correctly. Oh well, her loss and your gain!
