Whoa; wait - so this washes DISHES or CLOTHES in the same machine?

That HAS to be interesting...

Depends if the dishwashing tub is included or been lost.

IIRC from reading about Thor's wonderful automatic washing machine not many housewives took up the offer to wash dishes in same machine as laundry. Thus comparatively few of those dishwasher units were sold in relation to just washing machines.

Housewives wanted automatic washing machines, and Thor's was pretty well rated at the time (with a few quibbles here and there). Washing dishes by hand seemed not to bother women much as doing laundry same way or with semi-automatic washer.

Thor's "automagic" washers were also sold across the pond in UK, and IIRC other countries such as France.

The suspense of this post...

Haha, this was a fun post for a very unique (and interesting) item Launderess.

I can see why housewives of long ago would be hesitant of running a load of dishes in the same machine they had just washed their husband's boxer shorts.

It reminds me of more modern dishwasher hacks. I see these click-bait like article pop-ups all the time that are meant to be 'thrifty' or 'game changing' hacks you can do with your dishwasher but a lot of them really just gross you out.

Maybe it's just me but I can't see using it for dishes again after I've ran my dirty sneakers, hubcaps, hair brush or my pet's leash through it. The same would go for cloth diapers or dirty socks in this case.

But I totally see the convenience of a one and done machine for space saving. This thing is cool.

Just to be clear

There was a whole separate tub used for dish washing, which of course was sold as an add-on to washer. While that didn't always calm the "ick" factor for some, in theory dirty dishes and soiled laundry never were washing in same tub.

When you think about it that second tub for washing dishes wasn't always so convenient.

When not in use one had to find a place for storing the thing. Also unless it was left in washer (in which case a place had to be found to store laundry tub), you couldn't load dishes after each meal and run machine later that day.

Wow a 1946-1948 Thor, very cool hopefully someone grabs this!

Thor Dishwasher Tub

I found the dishwasher tub to my '47 Thor last year and I was just thrilled. I love using it albeit having to carry the dishes to the basement. It's the only dishwasher ever that you can do a low-water level over-flow rinse in! See my link below the picture. The tubs truly are separate as no water that ever touches the spin tub or outer tub of the machine ever touches the dishwasher basket assembly.

If it's still around when the border opens again.... LOL  I have 4 dishwashers and a 'unicorn' washer already waiting for me to get back in the US to collect them.  One more wouldn't hurt, I'm sure... LOL
