I got an emergency call from Craters and Freighters that they were swooping in today to pick up Greg's 1938 MYSTERY WASHER.
Which I have been storing for him since God was a baby.
So I had to go to Corporate and tell them I needed the afternoon off to move washing machines! OY the boss was furious but I said shove it.
Off I go to load up this beast, I barely got it up on the truck with the Escalera it is sooooo damn heavy. And that is with the tub removed as well!!
Then I hiked the 90 pound YES 90 pound tub up on the tailgate and tied it all down with Nylon.
Off I go home the 15 miles down Rte 1.
I get to Melrose and people are blowing horns ---pushy idiots!
I get up my steep hill into my driveway and when I get out of the truck my JAW just about hit the ground:
This is what I found:

The tub had worked itself free of the Nylon somewhere in that 15 miles and was just balanced on the tailgate!!
This is NOT a retouched photo!

*WOW* It is a good thing that that tub did not crash through some windshield and give an old lady a new Easter bonnet.

What is it with Massachussetts people SO impatient? What they expect you to do? Whip around the corners at 90mph? I got and heard alot of that commuting to Boston for the short time I was there. Sheesh!

Lid switch on a truck?

You have got to be joking? The truck won't go if the tailgate is down? Who built the truck? Maytag?

(ducks and runs)

All thats needed is a rubber spatula to keep the switch tripped while the gate is open!

Off balance load, Jon?

Who could ask for a better friend? I will have to do something nice for you, would you like a Maytag washer? I have lots and lots of them...

Thank you again, from the bottom of my free-wheeling tub!!

Wow, that was a close one! What I don't understand is why the lid wasn't up? I mean with one washer on the truck there was enough space. Or are we hiding another washer from us on that truck? Enquiring minds want to know!!

And was Aloysius endangered in any way?

Good thing it wasn't one of the "newer" Blackstone stainless tubs. They weigh "only" 70 lbs, and might have bounced off the tailgate. My brother and I had a tough time getting this washer out of my cellar, and that was up 4 stairs.

I can't imagine how these Blackstones were sold to people living in a 4th floor apartment.

I forgot you would be reading this,I am so embarassed! It was lucky it was the heavy tub.

Louis, there were two washers already in the bed. A 1938 mystery machine going to Greg and a 1949 Frigidaire going to Greg. SO there was no room at the inn and I had to use the tailgate.
Next time I'll bolt it down! They were heavy machines, the Blackstone barely made it up there with me and the Escalera pulling full tilt.
