WOW! From the looks of the huge outer tubs, old GE FF washers with perforated tubs must have been incredible water hogs. Just my perception, I could be wrong.

Yes EuGene, several individuals here over the years have referred to them as water hogs.

GE did not change the FilterFlo design when they transitioned from a non-perforated spin tub (which filled to just enough overflow for the filtering recirculation) to a perforated basket (which allows water to freely flow into the outer tub).  The design is such that the outer tub is stationary and sufficient space is required for the inner basket to oscillate within it during spin ... all that space fills with water to the selected level ...
