Searching craigslist for a Kenmore washer like I had in Atlanta, and discovered this model, with an unusual rinse option...

Very interesting.  I would select that setting a lot.

I used to set our Maytag A206 for a hot wash after filling on warm -- particularly when washing towels -- in order to get a warm spray rinse, which added volume to the spray.  I was disappointed when I found out that the A712 I got a few years ago only provided a cold spray regardless of wash temperature.

Cold agitated rinse with warm spray in the final spin was somewhat common at a point in time after energy concerns went into effect.  Calypso (and surely others) does that on the Warm/Warm selection although it isn't labeled for the split temps like the machine above.

it was in part for people who didn't understand, and would call for service(which they had to pay for if there was nothing wrong with the machine) alerting them that this selection gave them a cold deep rinse, and the spin/spray was warm...

for many setups, the hot water in the pipes has cooled down by the time it called for the spray rinse...so you got a full flow of cold water from both sides, by the time the hot water got to the machine, the spray ended....unless your machine was located very close to the water heater, or found a way to purge the line before the final spin started....

Very true! I often would switch our DD to warm/warm after the rinse filled so that it would force a higher volume spray rinse.
As mentioned, this is for sure due to energy guidelines.

I had an Estate Machine that did exactly this. Warm/Warm on the dial, only to discover the rinse was actually cold and the spray rinse only to be warm.
