I was never around any Kelvinator washers growing up.  I just noticed in the ad "no gears to wear out".  What kind of mechanism did it have in it?  Any pictures or links to show me?  Thanks

Technically this is not quite correct or complete, but

It had an agitator set on an eccentric mounted in a wheel below the tub. When the motor turned in one direction, the agitator made an off center circle in the tub. With the big fins, it moved the water and fabrics in a circle as it turned over the load. When the motor reversed for spin, the whole mechanism, including the tub, turned and the agitator was off-center, looking like the tub was out of balance, but it was not.

I have seen

a Kelvinator washer in action, and I should have asked...I would think that Tide might cause massive suds lock?

Many, many moons ago I threw together a thread that documented putting one of these back together. Some great shots of the two pulley/drive "mechanism", with some action shots!

Looking back at this thread I'm cringing just a bit at the Amateur Hour approach I was taking with the restoration. Live and learn!

Thanks all!  That was a neat machine.  I've seen videos on youtube but just couldn't figure out how they washed.
