As the weather finally broke, needed a laundromat visit to wash electric mattress pad/poly comforter. Had an irritating trip to the local laundromat. This one was an enormous space (with a Bock extractor...) which had a fire about 3 years ago in a portion of the space, then lay fallow and untouched for (literally) 2 years (you could see dry cleaning hung up in bags in the window)...questions and drama about insurance/building/god knows what. The other businesses in the strip center had long since reopened (smoke shop/pizza parlor/nail salon/Coney Island/Biggby Coffee) so it was clearly an issue with the laundromat. It reopened about a year ago, and I went over there. They had entirely new equipment (Huebsch) with an interesting proportion...two top loaders, maybe a half dozen each front load double/triple/quad loaders, and even some 6x loaders. Everything clean and new. Irritating part was the soap door/panel--the pictographs were pretty unclear and I ended up misinterpreting the "bleach/softener" syphon so put soap in it....ended up having to rewash the entire load. Grrr. The owner (cute Chaldean guy) was quite apologetic and offered a refund but I wasn't that fussed. Only about a 26 minute cycle...countdown on the panel. Extra quarter got another 4 minutes of "super wash". Water was nice and hot, though.

I wonder

Is the extractor still used?

It was in the fire so I doubt it. As heavily as it was built, though, probably a new belt and it would have been off to the races.

What is irritating to me

is that the machines still require hard currency (quarters) in a time when one can use a credit/debit card to purchase street food from a truck in the middle of a parking lot; or a can of soda from a vending machine. And, when access cards for laundry centers at private apartment complexes have been around for years.
