5 wash/rinse temp combos and 4 wash/spin speed combos. TOL or next to TOL model. And probably solid tub design.

Quick update - after chatting with the seller a deal has been struck for the SQ set! Next step is to arrange shipment to Iowa; I'll throw up a new post once I've had a chance assess both as apparently they were in use up until just a week ago!

This is a dream set of mine, one of the last remaining washers on the short list. A clean, restorable solenoid driven SQ has eluded me for the longest time and the A78 is IMO the best of the best.

Ben

TOL Speed Queen Solid Tub Pair

combo52's profile picture

Yay Ben, These are about the best of the SQ solid tub pairs, My first partners Mother who lived in Wisconsin had this pair in coppertone and they lasted a long time.

The washer is cool but wait till you see how overbuilt the dryer is, it is truly the most overbuilt dryer ever.

When we upgraded the heating system to natural gas around 1990 we took her a pair of new WPs in almond with a gas dryer, Wisconsin Gas ran a gas line to the house for free if you would install 3 gas appliances. The guy from the gas Co wanted to get her a gas range but she said don't even think of taking her GE Americana Hi-Low range away, so we did the furnace, WH and added a gas dryer.

She could could not believe how much better the WPs worked and how big a load they could handle but remained nostalgic for her old SQs as it was Her first Automatic Washer and her first dryer.

Overbuilt dryers:

I Worked with some Cissel 120# dryers that were way overbuilt. While these machines were very well made and worked well they were no better and less reliable than the Huebsch/SQ dryers that were less complicated and easier to keep running.
