Just had one of the fins on my 2016 Speed Queen top loader AWN432SP113TW04 washer break off. It was a good size piece right at the bottom.

I am always careful to wash smaller loads. In fact when I usually wash jeans I only do three at a time with nothing else.
On this load is was just ONE pair and four pocket t-shirts along with underwear and socks. I filled the tub too.

I was surprised to find the broken fin piece at the bottom of the tub.
I have located the replacement agitator directly on the Speed Queen parts site.
Hubby is pretty confident he can swap out the old part for the new as he does all of our appliance/house/auto repairs.

But he is wondering if there is something he should know about removing the old part and if we need to buy anything else in addition to the new agitator (part #36507). It's a Flex Fin agitator.

This is the first time anything has broken on this machine and I have been more than happy with it. It replaced a 1960's Turquoise blue MayTag machine that finally gave out after 50 years.
We also have an old Kitchen Aid dishwasher from the 60's that we use every week and have repaired ourselves. We like our old appliances.

Any help or advice or advice would be appreciated

You should be able to get your fingers under the agitator base with hands on opposite sides and rock it back and forth while pulling up to get it off.

Hubby wasn't sure if he needed a specific tool or not. He thought about this method but didn't want to try it in case he broke something.
Thanks for the swift reply!

There is a tool available, but some good old fashioned grunt will pull it right off. Might be a good time to clean under there as well. You will be surprised how much sludge can build up under these things.

No tool is needed...just fill the washer tub with hot water and let it soak for 15 mins and then drain the tub. Stop the washer and you should be able to grab the agitator by the center and pull upward....be aware you may get smacked in the face with the softener dispenser. heating the agitator will soften the plastic enough that the fingers that hold the agitator to the drive bell will let go of it. Once its up and out, remove the softener dispenser and take it apart to clean it out and re-assemble and snap the assembly back onto the agitator after you installed it so you can put some pressure on the agitator to seat it correctly.

Just want to thank all of you for your helpful advice and apologize for not responding sooner. Been a very busy week what with Halloween and having to take down the yard display and put away the decor for another year (I'm getting too old for this :) )

Thanks again
