Hubby wasn't sure if he needed a specific tool or not. He thought about this method but didn't want to try it in case he broke something. Thanks for the swift reply! |

There is a tool available, but some good old fashioned grunt will pull it right off. Might be a good time to clean under there as well. You will be surprised how much sludge can build up under these things. |

No tool is needed...just fill the washer tub with hot water and let it soak for 15 mins and then drain the tub. Stop the washer and you should be able to grab the agitator by the center and pull upward....be aware you may get smacked in the face with the softener dispenser. heating the agitator will soften the plastic enough that the fingers that hold the agitator to the drive bell will let go of it. Once its up and out, remove the softener dispenser and take it apart to clean it out and re-assemble and snap the assembly back onto the agitator after you installed it so you can put some pressure on the agitator to seat it correctly.
