this is the EXACT refrigerator my family had. It was an Americana and I believe my dad purchased it in November of I beldieve 1074..

the previous year my dad had bought a GE dishwasher. My mom liked it so well and my dad was so impressed with it that he bought the GE refrigerator and a GE hi-lo range with the bottom oven being microwave and conventional. They replaced our Whirlpool refrigerator that had the "Ice Magic" ice maker (about 1960 or '61 model, I believe.) The GE range replace our Tappan Fabulous 400 with the two upper ovens.

I remember the set being purchased in early November as my mom microwaved the Thanksgiving turkey in the new range. Came out well. I remember the stove came with a very nice leatherette/vinyl binder with the very comprehensive instructional manual and microwave cookbook. We followed the instructions to the letter cooking the turkey and using the conventional heat to aid in the browning.

The refrigerator had a repair or two on the ice maker, if I recall, but other than that worked flawlessly.

I remember watching the Brady Bunch reruns and thinking they had our refrigerator. If I recall, this particular refrigerator was in another TV show at the time. I think it may have been the Jefferson's.

These were cool refs in their day, They were the first I&W dispenser through the door refrigerators They are 36" wide.

The sealed refrigeration systems were reliable in this period, major problems with these refs were  the Ice Makers, defrost heaters, lower door hinges.

Bad thing about owning one of these today is very high power consumption 3 to 4 times what a new SXS uses and these dry out food badly in both the FF and freezer sections.

These refs are good for keeping a cold kitchen warm, but not so great in a warm climate, the compressors ran so hot that they often discolored the floor under the compressor.

That's what that was...

"the compressors ran so hot that they often discolored the floor under the compressor." I've seen that staining or discoloration. I always thought it was some type of leak that needed to be cleaned.
