not bad looking, but how does the user select a temperature for the oven?

Being the deluxe Westinghouse oven thermostat introduced in the mid 60s, the lever at the side has positions for Off in the middle, Bake below, and Broil above and the dial selects the temperatures. This permitted broiling delicate foods like fish and poultry without subjecting them to the full intensity of the broiler's heat if it were on full wattage. Frigidaire did this with the "Broiler Grill" which was an infinite switch that accomplished this and with GE's Oven Selector Switch the oven thermostat could be used independently of the "Broil" setting on the thermostat. This range made by Westinghouse was of considerably higher quality than the Montgomery Wards ranges made by other manufacturers like Tappan and Sunray.

So, one could never have both units on at the same time?

It would just be better to have an on/off switch for the broiler.

Ah - the enlargement helps

I failed to see the markings on the dial.  I only saw the pointer and the three function positions.

Thanks for the clarification!
